Re: [arch-general] [arch-dev-public] GSoC 2011
lol... gsoc students aren't going to get sponsored for making packages you'd have to be in a distro that does their own projects like fedora it'd be like slackware asking for gsoc 2011/2/25 Ángel Velásquez <angvp@archlinux.org>:
Hi,
I'm just wondering why we didn't participate in GSoC, many open source projects got improved for this kind of programs.
Just wondering areas in which we can receive and mentor students with the permission of the projects owner I will do a list of possible areas of work:
* Pacman (Adding signed packages) * AIF and archiso integration * Namcap * Netcfg * <insert project here>
Please don't kill me if the idea is wrong, It just came to my mind that idea.
Cheers

My sentiments exactly. The original proposal listed a bunch of PROJECTS, don't know where you got the idea it was for making packages.

Right, please read my entire post. I did a vague wiki page [1] Please add more info on it, stylize it, etc. Now, I will research the next steps to follow to participate it, if anybody want to help, feel free to contact me. So, will pacman really enter gsoc?

I've read the pacman roadmap, I think I can do things like implementint curl, or maybe optdepends (I couldn't build pactree from git, was it already proted to C?). Also, in case pacman doesn't enter, any advice for the ones willing to contribute? -- Ivan Sichmann Freitas Linux user #509059

I doubt anything Arch related will be part of GSoC this year given the deadline for applying to become a mentor organisation is Friday and I have not heard of anyone from here actually applying.... Allan

I'd like to get a handle on Arch through GSoC, but I haven't seen any mentors applying from here. -- William Holbrook II Mathematics Major Computer Science Major Morehead State University
