[arch-general] gimp 2.8 - How to change gtk controls back to normal?
Guys, Working with gimp 2.8, all of the slider controls are now these awkward highlighted regions instead of being normal sliders. How can I change the interface to get the normal gtk controls back. Here is what I see for all the slider controls: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/bugs/Archlinux/gtk-gimp28.jpg When you mouseover a control, you get a double-arrow and you can slide back and forth, but you can no longer click anywhere inside the widget and have it jump by '10' up or down as you could before. I use that jump by 10 all the time to adjust opacity, hue, saturation, etc. The new widgets are patently unusable in that regard. Can it be done without a gimp rebuild?

You'd want to check the gimp-user list I think, but if I recall correctly (from reading the list over the last few weeks) this is the new behaviour for 2.8. I don't use the sliders the way you describe, though.

I don’t get it why GIMP doesn’t use The Gimp Toolkit (GTK) but creates its own widgets. Maybe for image editing you need different controls but this would be more an excuse than a reason. I read about an UI redesign¹ but dunno how up-to-date this is. ¹ http://gui.gimp.org/index.php/GIMP_UI_Redesign

Thanks, that is what I figured. The gimp devs have taken the position that 2.8 is perfect and the only people that prefer 2.6 are low-level users that should go find a simpler graphics program. I guess I'm one of those. 2.6 was excellent, 2.8 just gives me a headache... -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
