[arch-general] Amavisd-new Only in AUR?
I know I can download packages from AUR but I really could not believe that 'amavisd-new' is not in 'Community'. I would think this tool for email / virus scanning would be popular enough to be voted into 'Community' repo. Does anyone have any idea what is holding this software back from getting votes / moved into the 'Community? Is it considered buggy or just not widely used enough in the Arch community? http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=573 Thanks for any input.

Most likely there hasn't been a TU interested in taking it. Virus scanners aren't much use on a system without an smtpd, and clam tends to be popular there. It also only has had 18 votes over the past 5 years, so it's pretty clearly not very popular...
I just don't see how you can use ClamAV on a MTA w/o Amavisd-new. I thought Amavisd-new was the daemon that allows email to be passed from SMTP to ClamAV and vice versa...that's why I can't believe more people don't use it. On 3/5/10, Daenyth Blank <daenyth+arch@gmail.com> wrote:

There are many options besides amavisd - mimedefang comes immediately to mind. If you're using postfix or sendmail, google milter.

Yes. I have only ever used Postfix for MTA. I will check out 'milter'.
