[arch-general] After installation of dbus-1.2.3-3: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-1.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Hi. I'm using the core, extra, community and unstable repos on my ArchLinux i686 setup and just now did a "pacman -Syu". Since then, I cannot start Gnome (and other programs): --($ /Arch/Cache)-- avahi-browse avahi-browse: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-1.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory --($ /Arch/Cache)-- gnome-terminal gnome-terminal: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-1.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory And indeed, there's no "libdbus-1.so.3" file on my system anymore. I updated the following packages: Pakete (8): bzr-1.8-1 [4.28 MB] dbus-1.2.3-3 [0.03 MB] fuse-2.7.4-1 [0.14 MB] libsigc++2.0-2.2.3-1 [4.43 MB] man-pages-3.11-1 [4.17 MB] openoffice-base-3.0.0-2 [140.99 MB] sdl-1.2.13-3 [0.60 MB] tzdata-2008h-1 [0.53 MB] I suppose the update of "dbus-1.2.3-3" caused the problem. Was it correct that libdbus-1.so.3 got deleted? FWIW, I also filed this as a bug -> http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/11831 Cheers, Michael -- GMX Kostenlose Spiele: Einfach online spielen und Spaß haben mit Pastry Passion! http://games.entertainment.gmx.net/de/entertainment/games/free/puzzle/616919...
Hi Michael, try to reinstall dbus-core, it works for me. But someone should definetly take a look on it. Dan On Tuesday 21 October 2008 20:15:12 Michael Schmarck wrote:

hello all, I got this warning when upgrading to gnome-control-center-2.24.0.1-2: WARNING: Failed to parse default value `??????????? ?????? ;gtk-theme-selector.desktop,???????????? ??????????? ???;default-applications.desktop,??????????? ????;gnome-cups-manager.desktop]' for schema (/schemas/apps/control-center/cc_actions_list) It's just a warning, so it should be fine, but I just wanted to point this out... -- radio ianux - http://ianux.fr/

It's a bug in a translation in gnome-control-center which I couldn't track down. I guess it will be fixed for 2.24.1, but it's not released yet.

Let me guess, dbus-core was not pulled in because you installed things with the -d flag? It's impossible that pacman allows upgrading to dbus 1.2.3-3 without installing dbus-core.

No. I ran "pacman -Syu". That's all I did :)

Guess it's not so impossible, after all :) Michael

I also did a simple "pacman -Syu", dbus-core was installed during the upgrade. "pacman -Ql dbus-core" showed somes files but they were not on the file-system. I had to reinstall dbus-core to fix the problem and have dbus working again. This bug did not appear when I did the same upgrade on my laptop, nor on my server. Paul Paul Ezvan
