[arch-general] lockscreen doesn't work anymore
Hey, I use cinnamon as my desktop environment. Today I upgraded the packages to the newest version:
cinnamon 3.2.1-1 cinnamon-control-center 3.2.0-1 cinnamon-desktop 3.2.0-1 cinnamon-menus 3.0.2-1 cinnamon-screensaver 3.0.1-2 cinnamon-session 3.2.0-1 cinnamon-settings-daemon 3.2.0-1 cinnamon-translations 3.2.0-1
After this upgrade, I can't lock my screen anymore. I get this output from $ cinnamon-screensaver --debug
[gs_debug_init] gs-debug.c:109 (01:11:31): Debugging enabled [main] cinnamon-screensaver.c:86 (01:11:31): initializing cinnamon-screensaver 3.0.1
(cinnamon-screensaver:15994): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.cinnamon.desktop.screensaver' does not contain a key named 'logout-enabled' Trace/Breakpoint ausgelöst (Speicherabzug geschrieben)
Can anyone help me? Thanks and greetings, pete

Hi Pete, next time consider to post English output. $ LANG=C cinnamon-screensaver --debug
[gs_debug_init] gs-debug.c:109 (01:11:31): Debugging enabled [main] cinnamon-screensaver.c:86 (01:11:31): initializing cinnamon-screensaver 3.0.1
(cinnamon-screensaver:15994): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.cinnamon.desktop.screensaver' does not contain a key named 'logout-enabled' Trace/Breakpoint ausgelöst (Speicherabzug geschrieben)
There is no key logout-enabled. [rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ gsettings list-keys org.cinnamon.desktop.screensaver | grep logout [rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ gsettings list-keys org.cinnamon.desktop.screensaver | grep enabled lock-enabled embedded-keyboard-enabled idle-activation-enabled status-message-enabled user-switch-enabled [rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ pacman -Q cinnamon-screensaver cinnamon-screensaver 3.0.1-2 However, I suspect that this isn't related to your issue. Perhaps lock-enabled is the important key. [rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ gsettings get org.cinnamon.desktop.screensaver lock-enabled true Note, I neither use Cinnamon, nor cinnamon-screensaver, I once installed it for testing purpose, but I dislike dconf. Try running $ gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.screensaver lock-enabled true Regards, Ralf

$ LANG=C cinnamon-screensaver --debug
Thanks for that advice. I'll keep it in mind.
Try running
$ gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.screensaver lock-enabled true
I did it and the output of $ gsetting get is true: $ gsettings get org.cinnamon.desktop.screensaver lock-enabled true But unfortunateley the lock-screen still doesn't work. greetings, pete
My apologies, something is fishy with my MUA. The previous mail was a reply to another mailing list. Begin forwarded message: Hi Pete, in the meantime cinnamon-screensaver was upgraded. Did you already test the new version? Regards, Ralf PS: FWIW there are two keys related to "lock". [rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ gsettings list-keys org.cinnamon.desktop.screensaver | grep lock | grep -v clock lock-enabled lock-delay [rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ grep graded /var/log/pacman.log | tail -1 [2016-11-09 09:42] [ALPM] upgraded cinnamon-screensaver (3.0.1-2 -> 3.2.0-1) [rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ dconf dump /org/cinnamon/desktop/screensaver/ [/] lock-enabled=true [rocketmouse@archlinux ~]$ gsettings list-keys org.cinnamon.desktop.screensaver screensaver-webkit-theme lock-enabled embedded-keyboard-enabled font-date idle-activation-enabled show-notifications use-custom-format default-message embedded-keyboard-command layout-group font-message show-info-panel ask-for-away-message time-format xscreensaver-hack lock-delay show-clock allow-keyboard-shortcuts allow-media-control date-format screensaver-name status-message-enabled font-time show-album-art user-switch-enabled

Yes, I did it already, but with no success. With the current version I get this output $ cinnamon-screensaver /usr/share/cinnamon-screensaver/cinnamon-screensaver-main.py:63: Warning: g_base64_encode_step: assertion 'in != NULL' failed css = provider.to_string() Cinnamon Screensaver support not found in current theme - adding some... Trying to connect to logind... Starting screensaver... Successfully using logind Themes, I installed, are the following: community/numix-themes 2.6.5-1 aur/cinnamon-theme-numix-git r88.0227932-1 aur/numix-circle-icon-theme-git 0.r3.3773866-1 aur/numix-cursor-theme-git r32.e92186d-1 aur/numix-themes-green 2.6.5-1 [installed] So I tried it with the default theme of cinnamon. The output is the following: $ cinnamon-screensaver Cinnamon Screensaver support not found in current theme - adding some... Trying to connect to logind... Starting screensaver... Successfully using logind greetings, pete
Oh this is so embarassing. After packages of cinnamon-* are upgraded I always do $ cinnamon --replace & I always thought that's all what's necessary to do to get the new package-versions working. (Often I don't want to reboot, because of all the stuff on my workspaces.) "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" - Roy Trenneman That did it.. Sorry for my lazy silliness and thanks for your time! :) greetings, pete

To which filesystem are you saving the recording? Is it perhaps a (V)FAT partition? Or a very old ext2 filesystem? Some of these have limitations on maximum file size.
How old should this ext2 be? Let alone that Arch is a rolling release and if you buy e.g. an USB stick, it unlikely is formatted with ext. In regards to the file system, I only could imagine tmpfs being the culprit. "Max. file size 16 GiB – 2 TiB" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext2 "On Linux kernels prior to 2.6.17,[4] restrictions in the block driver mean that ext2 filesystems have a maximum file size of 2 TiB." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext2 "Max. file size 4,294,967,295 bytes (4 GiB – 1) with FAT16B and FAT32[1]" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table "Max. file size ca. 128 PiB (theoretical 16 EiB–1)[nb 1]" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ExFAT "Further, the term "VFAT" has led to various misconceptions as well,[nb 1] as it is sometimes erroneously used as if it would describe another variant of FAT file system to be distinguished from the FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32 file systems, while in reality it does not specify another file system" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table Regards, Ralf
Maybe not related, but my cinnamon-screensaver also started causing issues with this update. Its tasks take 100% CPU usage on several cores, severely slowing down the PC and cause it to be almost unusable. I have to kill them by hand to have control again.
