[arch-general] Can't change tty's since last update
Hey hey, since my last update, today, I sometimes can't change ttys. Using showkey I have checked that both the alt key and the f-keys are coming through. Might this be a kernel issues. I believe I came from 5.0.x and am now on 5.2.3. May it further be an indication that my jackd settings have lead to major xruns on input, using jackd1? Does anyone have an idea, maybe even where else to look for suspects? Hi, grep 'linux (' /var/log/pacman.log | tail -1 does show the previous kernel. You could install the kernel from testing. pacman -U https://sgp.mirror.pkgbuild.com/testing/os/x86_64/linux{,-headers,-docs}-5.2.4.arch1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz At the moment I'm using the kernel from testing and Ctrl+Alt+Fn as well as Alt+Fn are working. Actually I'm used to use Ctrl+Alt+Fn only, but I tested Alt+Fn right now. I don't know if it 'sometimes' won't work. Regards, Ralf -- pacman -Q linux{,-rt{-cornflower,-pussytoes,,-securityink}}|cut -d\ -f2 5.2.4.arch1-1 5.2_rt1-0 5.0.21_rt16-1 5.0.19_rt11-1 4.19.59_rt24-0

grep 'linux (' /var/log/pacman.log | tail -1 I have upgraded from kernel 5.0.10. Alt+fN mostly works, but sometimes fails. Last time I tried alt+left and/or alt+right which did work. Shortly afterwards alt+fN did work again. As I say, a test, during the failing period, showed that both the alt and the fN keys were read by the system. They showed up as alt (56) and f1 (59) in showkey, which is what they usually do. So I don't understand.

Hesitant to reply because I haven't really looked into this much, but was maybe hwdb part of ststemd / formerly udev updated? I know it has key bindings On Mon, Jul 29, 2019, 1:46 PM Jeanette C. via arch-general < arch-general@archlinux.org> wrote:

It probably requires to disable spectre mitigations, too.

PS: I don't know, but real-time audio related migrating to another kernel always could make a difference. Btw. if you should use GRUB and assuming you allow GRUB to automatically generate the configuration, consider to check, if the kernel parameter 'threadirqs' is still used. I'm using syslinux. $ grep 'Arch Linux ^threadirqs' /boot/syslinux/syslinux.cfg -A3 MENU LABEL Arch Linux ^threadirqs LINUX ../vmlinuz-linux APPEND root=LABEL=s3.archlinux ro threadirqs INITRD ../intel-ucode.img,../initramfs-linux.img Apropos kernel parameters, as it turned out CONFIG_AUDIT is still important for real-time audio usage, see https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/linux-rt/#comment-702130. -- pacman -Q linux{,-rt{-cornflower,-pussytoes,,-securityink}}|cut -d\ -f2 5.2.4.arch1-1 5.2_rt1-0 5.0.21_rt16-1 5.0.19_rt11-1 4.19.59_rt24-0
Hi Ralf, I have taken audit=0 aboard and will see if and how it affects my audio performance. I do use grub and I do have a manually configured grub.cfg for several reasons. Dear Jeanette,
Are you on Notebook or which kind of hardware do you use? It may help to help you :) ... Dear Yurii, I think my keyboard problem at least has settled down. I hope that it was just a glitch. It hasn't returned since early yesterday night.
If not however, I am on a desktop computer, quadcore Athlon with a quality USB keyboard. Thinking about it maybe some of the USB devices had to settle down and play nice. There are quite a few. I'll observe. Thanks again to all and best wishes, Jeanette -- * Website: http://juliencoder.de - for summer is a state of sound * SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/jeanette_c * Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMS4rfGrTwz8W7jhC1Jnv7g * GitHub: https://github.com/jeanette-c * Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeanette_c_s You might think that I won't make it on my own, But now I'm Stronger <3 (Britney Spears)
