[arch-general] Can't ssh to vServer running ArchLinux
Hello, after my latest update of my vServer, I wanted to ssh into this box. But I'm given this error message and the ssh hangs: $ ssh bitterblume.com PTY allocation request failed on channel 0 Is there any chance to resque that? I've always did a copy of the old kernel-image. Perhaps I can get the support to boot my machine by hand and change the grub line .. -- Gruß, Johannes Täglich http://blog.hehejo.de und du fühlst dich gut. Proabbly initab is set wrong, what was updated? That can be. I don't know what's been updated. That update was one or two weeks ago. Unfortunately I don't know exactly what packages are updated - but I bet it's something with that change in tty and inittab..

As the article says:
Due to severe system breakages if this file is not updated, this change will be automatically handled by pacman. Unfortunately, I didn't check the update. We didn't alter these files anyway.
The hardest part will be to fix these file on my vServer - as I don't have any access to it. Perhaps the support can help me … -- Gruß, Johannes Täglich http://blog.hehejo.de und du fühlst dich gut. Mast und Schotbruch mit dem http://segelsport-blog.de.

That wont help right now, but one should not rent a server without a serical console __and__ a rescue system which can boot from network. Others might disagree but I prefer to update more regualry even on my server. This way you don't get a lot of problems at once. And of course keep an eye on the news. -- Pierre Schmitz, http://users.archlinux.de/~pierre
