[arch-general] interested in becoming a TU
Howdy, I am interested in becoming a TU. I have several packages in the AUR, including magic-wormhole{,-git}, rndsig, libsonic-git, rsgames, etc. My main area of interested, in maintinaing packages as a TU, would be accessibility related items, E.G. orca, speech-dispatcher, espeakup. Before I actually apply, I'd like to get some feedback from an already existing TU, to make sure I have the required skillset, and just get some general pointers. If anyone is willing to help and eventually sponsor me, please contact me off list. Thanks Storm -- Powered by Arch Linux! Oops, the above was the wrong quote and link. "Addition of a TU The addition of a TU may occur at any time. In order to become a TU, one must first find a sponsoring TU, and arrange privately with them to announce their candidacy on the aur-general mailing list. Following the announcement, standard voting procedure commences with a discussion period of 5 days, a quorum of 66%, and a voting period of 7 days." - https://aur.archlinux.org/trusted-user/TUbylaws.html#_addition_of_a_tu Anyway, the appropriate list remains:

Regards, Ralf Howdy, Thanks for the info. My original post wasn't meant to be an actual request to become a TU, but rather a preparation request. I read the wiki for the guidelines, and it seems like having close contact with an existing TU would be a good thing. So, my original message was more aimed at finding someone who would be willing/and have the time to hang out, and maybe fill me in on the stuff I would need to know when I get on the inside :). I think I have the skillset, but I do need a sponsor, so I definitely need to get to know a TU for that anyway. Thanks Storm

Looking at things, none of your AUR packages are really candidates for Community. The guideline is 10 votes. So let's look at the accessibility side of things. I was going to suggest contacting the maintainers of the packages you are interested in to see if they would like help, but 2 of the 3 packages you list are in Extra, which TUs don't have access to. This all leaves me confused. The first thing I would suggest is to figure out exactly what you want to do as a TU. Doug

Doug I guess I didn't communicate the accessibility part of it very well. I am interested in doing work for accessibility package, those that either aren't maintained, or if someone is interested in dropping them, or having a co-maintainer. Also, for packages that required to build them. I noticed a while back the package dotconf was orphaned, for example, and it is required to build speech-dispatcher. My list of packages related to accessibility in my original post wasn't a list I planned on maintaining specifically, unless it became necessary, it was just a list of example of the type of stuff in which I have an interest. I am also willing to take up some of the packages that don't have maintainers atm, as well as helping out however I can. -- Powered by Arch Linux! Some word of advice - having a bunch of ads in your signature won't draw positive attention from the TUs. Alad
