[arch-general] Sigurd rDNS broken
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I just noticed sigurd.archlinux.org has a broken rDNS so my mailserver rejects all mails coming from the AUR. Would be glad if anyone could fix that. nslookup: sigurd.archlinux.org -> 208.92.232.29 -> client-208-92-232-29.sevenl.net - -> NXDOMAIN - -- Florian -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.12 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJKfqPjAAoJEG0WVcFM4cE+iJ0P/AvgvBNcMpf10KjEdHRw9F99 R90uNzXBFXSqZvD7sZRh9aJMuREh6QpzZE4OAUV72CQgzf0ujXPn91drsvccPlHu n+fVi0IAH1cpQN/RRFnfuUN6//sjbUMvgXG8N6tI2vTKawHlAK8bTseZoS2tyRBr 35q9WVeGgF66sl9wQ25ajq97k1SPDyUA22f7XV5F5mHdhJprmP8SpqWOEOXMQpuO mVGxF+mqPEk5ahcersp4QgZddzGJTyg35bqw8jtZ+DNTEEseg7pPziWX3/RBGl+1 U8fm5zz6jYpNPDty3Ru1gKIaA1pLXwqoGf7X8CRUWtVSW/AJyTO4c4AZpNTykCmT moNNYI9/a8nvtuecRYuFcwy5FCl1yxF7UFQW4GyFn7D5a4+Gti/SkrS6UtODdwTs ktdFFTlvvYKPE9xNqQ8Tp6qlO8txAitGHVFRmvdjL7ghndgH4xaMz5lVRT59csph 7n82lWo5HGtk+dzk3srALwvvm40ahaebgx4Q/ySCCM94J1mbziHf0XZdOp6vZ7rC fQIwJNZWzUjfZ2J1Ukpo557zVShplrDc+0hQsanYArXK32tlIFFAysRHsOFK/fwV 6SxoGuhdhk0+qSlflZ2pjowYH9v6FQfU5UPo/s6l+CYKd+c/lVkY70ePiBZPapTS kQvcvQeEn9VTMwu6Rd/X =cuoy -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

Looks like your mail server is broken. An IP can have several hostnames. -- Pierre Schmitz, http://users.archlinux.de/~pierre

Could you explain what you are using to filter emails? If you really check if the ehlo domain/ip is the same as the rdns you might get very few emails. ;-) -- Pierre Schmitz, http://users.archlinux.de/~pierre

He might be referring to FCrDNS which does seem to be broken for 208.92.232.29 as: a reverse lookup on 208.92.232.29 gives client-208-92-232-29.sevenl.net but a lookup of client-208-92-232-29.sevenl.net does not resolve to 208.92.232.29 checked at http://ipadmin.junkemailfilter.com/rdns.php Not sure if any mailservers are using this but it wouldn't surprise me if Google was using it. :) Mike

I check if the HELO looks valid (haven't yet had problems with that) and if IP -> hostname -> IP == IP that wants to send the mail. This should work with most valid mailserver. Ah OK, then I got it wrong. Yes, the rdns should resolve to the same IP again. It would be best to just open a simple bug report; so it wont get lost here. -- Pierre Schmitz, http://users.archlinux.de/~pierre
