[arch-general] Discussion about optional dependencies from arch-dev-public
Hi. I write my two cents here cause I cannot post in arch-dev-public. The main problem of add "qt5-x11extras" as dependency is that it add a lot of more dependencies. Take note that virtualbox can run as server and, in this case, you not need to install the gui. You can run it in a machine without X. Maybe the solution is split it in two packages, virtualbox (for gui) an virtualbox-server. What you think? Greetings. -- Óscar García Amor | ogarcia at moire.org | http://ogarcia.me
Just a side note, you could use NoExtract of /etc/pacman.conf, so you not necessarily need a split package and since qt5-x11extras is an optional dependency, you don't need to install it. Regards, Ralf

I think you missed the part (on arch-dev-public) where the discussion was about making qt5-x11extras a dep rather than an opt-dep, which is OP concern. ;) Bruno

Oops, I should have read more carefully. If I'm affected by a hard dependency, that IMO could be and should be an optional dependency, I build an empty dummy package to fulfil the dependency. Some dependencies are annoying. I didn't follow the discussion and in this case I don't care. Maybe there are reasons to make it a hard dependency.
