nm-applet works for me. Why do you mention ethernet -- does wireless work for you and ethernet does not? Does "systemctl status -l NetworkManager" show helpful information? Have you disabled services that compete with NetworkManager, e.g. is there no dhcpcd started directly from systemd?

I'm seeing a different behavior from nm-applet but I can't pinpoint exactly when this started happening. I know this must have happened in the last week (most probably after yesterday's update). Previously I could left-click release and the nm-applet menu would stay open, now I have to left-click and hold otherwise there is no menu. Apart from this everything seems to work correctly. -- Mauro Santos

This sounds like something with the recent GNOME/GTK3 update. I built network-manager-applet-gtk2 from the AUR because I'm using Xfce, which does not always play nicely with GTK3 (themes, etc.). --Kyle

Anyone know if there's an open bug report for this? I'm also seeing this problem. (Also on XFCE.) DR

Which theme do you use? No issues here with greybird and XFCE. regards bjo -- xmpp bjo@schafweide.org bjo.nord-west.org | nord-west.org

Here I'm using XFCE and clearlooks-phenix-gtk-theme-git from the AUR. I have tested with adwaita which is owned by gnome-themes-standard (meaning this theme should be sanctioned by the gnome guys) and I see the same problem, I suppose that if it behaves like this with adwaita then this is a new "feature" :/ As to the original problem, I have tested using ethernet and I had no problems (tested with static ip and dhcp profiles). -- Mauro Santos

<sarcasm> GTK3 isn't buggy, it is a bug. </sarcasm> I'm using JWM and openbox, GTK2 fonts are ok, but after the big GTK3 upgrade I'm nearly unable to read many fonts even with reading glasses. I guess "I have to left-click and hold" is what upstream will call a feature, I wonder how they explain unreadable scaled-down fonts for menu bars.

After rereading this thread, I just remembered something. I have (in the past) experienced a similar issue with all GTK3 programs. If I clicked on a submenu, instead of popping up the corresponding submenu, it would disappear. I never figured out why submenus disappeared when I clicked on them, but it's what drove me to start compiling a few programs with gtk2 instead of gtk3 (including NetworkManager's GUI). --Kyle
