[arch-general] xorg upgrade - error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
Guys, Updating xorg resulted in pacman finding the following conflicts: (87/87) checking for file conflicts [#######################################] 100% error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files) xorg-bdftopcf: /usr/bin/bdftopcf exists in filesystem xorg-bdftopcf: /usr/share/man/man1/bdftopcf.1.gz exists in filesystem xorg-mkfontscale: /usr/bin/mkfontscale exists in filesystem xorg-mkfontscale: /usr/share/man/man1/mkfontscale.1.gz exists in filesystem xorg-mkfontdir: /usr/bin/mkfontdir exists in filesystem xorg-mkfontdir: /usr/share/man/man1/mkfontdir.1.gz exists in filesystem Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded. --force works fine. Just thought I'd let the list know in case the packages need tweaking. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

The useful thing to do in that case is to run a "pkgfile -s" (provided by pkgtools) on those files to see which package own them. Regards, -- Cédric Girard

Or a "pacman -Qo". ;-) Heiko

(smacks self) Thanks Cédric, I have a bunch more boxes to update, so I'll get the information and report back :) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Thanks Cédric,

This must be a fluke due to something I can't explain on this one box. I have now upgraded 4 more boxes and I can't reproduce it. Strange. I've got a few more boxes to go, so I'll let you know if I see this again. The big issue on this one box is the PKGBUILD depends=('xorg') reinstalling everything. I'll follow up on that in the other thread. It may just be something with this one box as well. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Well, this is probably related to FS#23271, isn't it? [1] [1] https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/23271

Right you are - my bad. This looks like what I saw, except I had a few more packages. I'll add that info. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
