[arch-general] kdemod3-complete install - many duplicates in kde menu
Listmates, After installing kde3 with "pacman -S kdemod3-complete", I was rearranging and ordering the kde menu with 'kmenuedit' and ran across a number of duplicate entries created during the install. The following isn't a complete list, but probably catches 80-90% of the duplicate entries. The following were each duplicated one (or more) times by the installer in various places within the kde menu: KPalmDOC KPilot KNotes KArm KAlarm Kandy Xgnokii KNotes Dictionary KTnef Korn Kontact KDE Groupware Wizard I don't know who does kdemod3, but if it will help, I have gone through and removed most of the duplicates and sorted the kde menu into a few additional folders to get rid of the ton of files that were under 'utilities' and I have also moved all the packages in the catchall 'More Applications' and 'Lost & Found' folders to new homes in the menu. I have put a copy of the new ~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu on the web site if anybody wants to grab pieces from it or compare it to the original. http://www.3111skyline.com/download/ArchLinux/fixes/menus/applications-kmenu... HTHs, if not, just hit delete... No troll comments necessary or appreciated. Thanks. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. I've got a question for everyone: Why is it that kdemod is not cleanly packaged in arch linux? I mean, I try to install kdemod-extragear group but I can't beacuse there are conflicts: packages like kdemod-extragear-bespin, kdemod-extragear-bespin-svn, and kdemod-extragear-bespin-svn are all part of kdemod-extragear and prevent the whole group from installing. The same goes for plasmoids. I cannot install kdemod-plasmoids because it takes doubles and pacman complains that a file exists in both packages! Another reason for this rant is plasmoids not being to run at all. My lancelot plasmoid does not work at all! It just comes up with "can not find required component: lancelot_launcher" Anyone want to take a stab at this? Alexander Kotlerman (Shura)

kdemod is not part of the distribution, and bugs should not be reported in the distribution bugtracker. Report your problems at the kdemod bugtracker, as they can and will fix the bugs in kdemod.

Hi, I hope that you know that kdemod isn't officially from ArchLinux. It's from another project called "Chakra". I have seen that they have a mailing list and a forum specific for kdemod. Maybe you get better answers for kdemod there. Cheers, Daniel

As someone else already wrote re: kdemod bugs, you should post this over at the kdemod project forums instead of here. DR

Gotcha DR, The post here was just to provide the cleaned up applications-kmenuedit.menu should any member want to try it on their system as an easy way to get rid of duplicates. The rest will go to chakra. Thanks. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
