It's gotten quite a bit worse, usability wise, I think. Oh, and if you find out how to change the background image for the screensaver login then please let me know. There is a script, I think its in AUR something like GDM-Changer or something like that. I installed it on my box at home but it doesn't work. That might be because I do not use sudo though?

Other than that I've tried all the so called success story's all have failed for me :-(

The GDM wiki page gives instructions for that, basically running gnome-appearance-properties as the gdm user.

This is what I use to do, if something is wrong somebody please correct me.

Change :/sbin/nologin to :/bin/bash, then, as root # su gdm $ dbus-launch gnome-appearance-properties

Configure according to your needs, then edit /etc/passwd again and change :/bin/bash to :/sbin/nologin.

It's enough to do (no need to change the shell): # su -m gdm $ dbus..... Armando

As i know, changing of gdm 2.28 theme was not supported, yet, but this program should help doing some configuring:(like change background, icon, autologin, banner text...) http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=33884 gdm2setup TIPs: i found i bug of gdm2setup, if /usr/share/images/xsplash directory not existed, gdm2setup will fail to renew the background image. you can simple create this directory to solve this.
