The kernel26 package lacks a versioned dependency on module-init-tools - the gz support was only enabled recently, see the mailing list for the exact version number.

and with this, i rest my case. Cherry picking from testing is wrong and it should be all or nothing approach. -- Ionuț

Umm... module-init-tools is only in [core] so cherry-picking from [testing] did not cause this.

Thanks, Thomas! But shouldn't it be fixed i n such a case?
the gz support was only enabled recently, see the mailing list for the exact version number.
However I couldn't find it neither in the mailing list nor on archlinux.org... Cheers, Sergey

I agree in general, but IMHO the kernel is different, I do not see any reason to not run whatever kernel people like. Cheers, Sergey

Until it gets deprecated (like 2.6.26 or something). Also a few other packages are very dependent on kernel versions (nvidia/catalyst for example). Of course, those who know what they're doing can do whatever they want.... those who ASK are those who are likely to have problems though.
