Matias, It is optional, you only do this if you want to or have the time to do so. Install the latest linux kernel package (currently linux-3.0.2-1) from the testing repository. If all works well when you use the new kernel, you can report back that all is well with it (indicate you are signing off on it). This is only useful while the package is still in testing - this one has already moved to core.
