[arch-general] Issue with system time
Hi, in last few weeks I noticed a serious (for me) problem with my system. It simply does not update the date/time after boot up. In BIOS the time is correct, but when I boot Linux, the system time is set exactly to time when I turned it off last time. It's quite annoying to always have to set up the time manually. In rc.conf I have HARDWARECLOCK set to "localtime" and Time Zone to "Europe/Prague". I was trying to set automatic time sync in KDE System Settings, but it fails to connect to time server. I use KDE 4.2.70, so it might be bug there, but it does not bother me, the main problem is that my system refuses to update (load from BIOS?) time after boot up. Any ideas? Also, perhaps you might need to change the CMOS battery on your motherboard. DR

Hi, thanks for the NTP, looks good to me. It is not a HW problem because as I wrote, the time in BIOS is correct. The only thing is, that Linux seems not to read it from there, but resumes from where he stopped at shutdown. you could also try setting the hardware clock to the system time with # hwclock --systohc ----- Original Message ---- From: Dan Vratil <progdan@progdansoft.com> To: General Discusson about Arch Linux <arch-general@archlinux.org> Sent: Tuesday, April 28, 2009 5:34:17 PM Subject: [arch-general] Issue with system time Hi, in last few weeks I noticed a serious (for me) problem with my system. I had the issue when I had a laptop back from repair and the clock seemed to stand still between reboots. The issue was that hwclock adjusts for "drift" in the hardware clock. So in my case, it thought that in 24 hours, the clock drifted -23.5 hours, so after having the machine off for one day, it was only half an hour later. You can solve this by deleting /var/lib/hwclock/adjtime and rebooting.
Hi, it seems to work. The time is now synced correctly. Thank you On Tuesday 28 April 2009 23:34:17 Dan Vratil wrote:
