[arch-general] What ISO will load a kernel in an AMD K62/450?
Guys, After the recent discussion about arch working well on old hardware, I decided to dump a suse 10.3 install on an old AMD K6-2/450 and install arch on it. I downloaded the net install iso i686. I knew if it was truly i686 it wouldn't install -- and it didn't. My question is which Arch download, if any, can install on this old hardware. (currently a great little fax server, backup DNS/dhcp box and 40G of storage.) Any help (or the right link) would be appreciated. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Compile it yourself then (abs is trivial) or if you are too lazy: http://vectorlinux.com/ is similar to arch (slightly more slackware biased ) and runs on i386 -- Arvid Asgaard Technologies

Compiling is not fun on old hardware and Vector is not Arch. I agree that Vector is very good for old hardware though. That's not why I'm commenting. Could you fix your date or whatever is wrong with your setup: "Received: from g229085212.adsl.alicedsl.de ([92.229.85.212]" "helo=[192.168.1.248])" "by samir.ibcsolutions.de with esmtpsa" "(TLSv1:AES256-SHA:256)" "(Exim 4.69) (envelope-from <aep@exys.org>) id" "1NPFop-000248-SQ" "for arch-general@archlinux.org; Mon, 28" "Dec 2009 14:39:31 +0100" "Message-ID: <4B384496.1090609@exys.org>" "Date: Mon, 28 Dec 2009 06:39:34 +0100" "From: Arvid Picciani <aep@exys.org>"

Archlinux doesn't support i586 in any way. Not the kernel, not the packages, so you're bound to community projects. One that has recent updates is this one: http://archlinux-i586.org/ I don't know the quality of the packages there, as I don't have any i586 boxes where I would run archlinux on.

The K6 is no i686 and Arch wont run on it. (OK, there was a port to i586; no idea if it's still active) -- Pierre Schmitz, https://users.archlinux.de/~pierre
Hello list, since the Changelog of mc 4.7.0 mentioned "pacman's PKGBUILD" files we should give the new version a try ;) changelog: http://www.midnight-commander.org/wiki/NEWS-4.7.0 download: http://www.midnight-commander.org/downloads Of cause, full utf8 support comes now out of the box... I didn't reach the maintainers email adress, so I put the mail to the list ... please don't flame me now. -- regards, TR
