[arch-general] Vertical Quicklaunch on the Desktop in KDE4 - It's a Winner
Guys, The far right-hand sliver of the screen is rarely covered on my desktop. Using the quicklaunch widget turns it into a very useful launch area without placing an entire 'toolbar' on the edge by using the 'quicklaunch' widget. Using the quicklaunch, you can put ~20 of your favorite apps in a very convenient location without losing desktop real estate. See: (42k) http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/ss/kde4/vertical-quicklaunch.jpg Initially the quicklaunch widget orients itself in a horizontal configuration. Simply using the resize handle, you can resize it into a vertical configuration. Right after resize, the whole quicklaunch will look like a mess due to a bug that changes the size of the icons to 128px as the widget is resized vertically. Just click on the preferences access button and set the size back to 16 and you are good to go. (while you are there also increase the maximum number of visible apps to ~30 or so) To populate quicklaunch, just right-click the quicklaunch on the icon above where you want your app located and navigate to the .desktop file for the app you want to add and click OK. The .desktop files are usually located at: /usr/share/applications /opt/kde(3)/share/applications/kde (adjust as required) /usr/share/applications/kde4 To rearrange the application order, just drag the icons where you want them in the quicklaunch. Enjoy! (PS. the multiple konqueror and dolphin icons are the user & su versions) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Man, your desktop theme is _slick_... What is its name? About the quickstart, I've used it some time, but now i use a taskbar called Fancy Task. It works as a quick launch and task manager. Very usefull. -- A: Because it obfuscates the reading. Q: Why is top posting so bad? ------------------------------------------- Denis A. Altoe Falqueto -------------------------------------------

Dunno, Most of the themes I've just created by taking bits and pieces ideas from different ones I like to ultimately end up with something I think is cool. I think the one you were looking at was a color scheme called dcrBlackGoldFinal.color with a gold satin desktop background. I've put all my color schemes together in two bz2 files. One for kde3 and one for kde4. You can grab theme here: KDE3: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/dt/kde3/dcrKDE3color-schemes.tar.bz2 KDE4: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/dt/kde4/dcrKDE4color-schemes.tar.bz2 just unzip the themes to ~/.kde4/share/apps/color-schemes (using 'tar -xjf crKDE4color-schemes.tar.bz2 -C ~/.kde4/share/apps/' will do it) You can use either kde3 or kde4 themes in kde4, there are only 4-5 additional color elements in kde4 and they will be filled in if a kde3 theme is used in kde4. The desktop theme containing the wallpaper, etc is: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/dt/kde3/kthememanager/themes/dcrBlackGoldKDE3D... There are several more variations and other Charcoal/Blue themes in: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/dt/kde3/kthememanager http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/dt/kde3/kstyle/ Enjoy

I'll check it out. -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. Rankin Law Firm, PLLC 510 Ochiltree Street Nacogdoches, Texas 75961 Telephone: (936) 715-9333 Facsimile: (936) 715-9339 www.rankinlawfirm.com
