[arch-general] Empathy on Arch?
I've tried empathy a few times since my switch to Arch, but I never manage to get it even close to working. Latest was today. It even imported account info from my working pidgin, but still, no connection to any of the accounts. Is it me or is it the empathy packages in Arch that are the problem? :-) /M -- Magnus Therning (OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4) magnus@therning.org Jabber: magnus@therning.org http://therning.org/magnus identi.ca|twitter: magthe
Coincidently, I've just installed it here, and it works pretty well. Just remember that, for instance, if you want to use XMPP, you have to install telepathy-gabble; If you want to use MSN, you have to install telepathy-butterfly and so forth. 2010/8/17 Magnus Therning <magnus@therning.org>

Yes, got gabble installed. Using the settings that work in pidgin, still it's stuck on something; not connecting, not throbbing the top-right indicator-thingie... nothing. Out of curiosity, are you on 32bit or 64bit? /M -- Magnus Therning (OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4) magnus@therning.org Jabber: magnus@therning.org http://therning.org/magnus identi.ca|twitter: magthe

I'm sorry for the top posting in the last e-mail. Anyway, I'm on a 64bit system. -- Rafael Beraldo http://cabaladada.org

No worries :-) So am I, on all my systems. Now I have connection to GTalk from home, but no luck at work, which is the place I could really use it since we have a combination of internal IM/chat servers, Jabber, Office Communicator (SIP), IRC. :-( /M -- Magnus Therning (OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4) magnus@therning.org Jabber: magnus@therning.org http://therning.org/magnus identi.ca|twitter: magthe

Any particular reason not to use Pidgin? It handles all those. In fact libpurple is so good that Empathy uses it for a few protocols it can't handle...

None really. It's what I use at the moment. However, empathy (especially telepathy) seems to be the future(tm) and it handles both audio and video for protocols that can do that. That latter bit makes me want to switch on my personal systems, and if possible I like to keep my work systems as similar to my home systems as possible. /M -- Magnus Therning (OpenPGP: 0xAB4DFBA4) magnus@therning.org Jabber: magnus@therning.org http://therning.org/magnus identi.ca|twitter: magthe

you have logs in empathy and it might find some clues there. I'm using it with gmail and jabber.org and everything works as expected -- Ionuț

Tested empathy previously (half a month or so) with MSN and gtalk, works fine. As mentioned, the different telepathy-* should be installed (I made that mistake, silly me).
