Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. I am currently away from IIT Kanpur and was
not able to make the necessary changes. We maintain the arch linux
mirror at mirror.cse.iitk.ac.in.
We will now be syncing from one of the Trier 1 mirrors. I have
send a mail to one of the admins
rsync://rsync.gtlib.gatech.edu/archlinux/" I will start the cronjob
once I get a go-ahead from them.
By the way I noticed in the mirror listing at
http://www.archlinux.de/?page=MirrorStatus that our http mirrors
response time is of the order of 6 seconds whereas our ftp server
seems to be doing much better. (0.52).
I noticed that some mirrors have comparable response time for both
http and ftp and in some cases the situation is reverse. Am I reading
too much into these figures or is there some special reason for this?
Regards
ppk
Hi!
Is it possible to change the URL archlinux.linuxforum.kz to
archlinux.kz in mirrorlist? Service comes in two domains
simultaneously. Physically, this is a single server.
Best regards, Viktor
Hi,
mirror.cse.iitk.ac.in is syncing again. We are syncing
from the trier 1 mirror at rsync://rsync.gtlib.gatech.edu/archlinux/
Thanks to Neil Bright for allowing us to sync.

ppk

hi,
sorry for my first reply. i was in a hurry and didn't give you a lot of
useful information.
Couples of days ago we removed access for all non tier 1 mirrors and we
did announce this action more than one month ago.
To start syncing again use one of the tier 1 mirrors documented here:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DeveloperWiki:NewMirrors
In addition i want to know which server did you choose and encourage you
to join arch-mirrors mailing list and ask any additional.

I get the following message when trying to rsync. Wha can be the reason?
It used to work.

Tier1 mirrors don't sync ftpfull.
The difference of ftpfull is that it includes other and archive directories.
I don't think there is a need for mirrors to sync it.
There is no point in syncing archive directory, it is permanently frozen.
Since you already have it - you can just exclude it from rsync process.
The other directory contains some sources and patches
that have no other official place to be taken from.
There's not much point in mirroring it if you don't mirror the sources.
Besides ftp.archlinux.org both other and sources directories
are available at mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/
@devs: do you agree with my points above?
@Olivier: I suggest you to pick one of tier1 mirrors as the upstream.
If absolutely you want to sync other and sources directories then you can use
rsync://mirrors.nl.eu.kernel.org/archlinux/
(as mentioned above: to keep archive - just exclude it from sync)
In any case please let me know which upstream you will use
so that our db can be updated.

Is it just me or are most of the arch mirrors outdated/slow-syncing? I
sync every hour and its always the same. When there is a KDE update or
so all the mirrors get outdated. This was a problem with the old
mirroring scheme, and to me it seems to be the same now. Is this a
problem with few Tier-1 mirrors or is archlinux.org still overstrained
when there are huge updates?
I am ready to set up rsync and allow 10-20 mirrors (start with 10 and
see how it works with the bandwidth) in Europe, preferred Germany - if
this can help us get our mirrors synced fast even with such updates.
I think a bleeding-edge linux distribution should definitely not have
issues with slow syncs. When there is a security update or an update
like KDE it should be out there as fast as possible, no matter which
mirror you use.
I'll be offline on July 2-11.
After I come back and read all pending emails (if any)
rsync access to rsync.archlinux.org will be blocked
for all non-tier1 mirrors, which means that all mirrors
that did not move to 2-tier scheme yet
will not be able to sync from rsync.archlinux.org.
