[arch-multilib] Native x86_64 flashplugin preview released
A native x86_64 flashplugin preview has been release in Adobe Labs codenamed "Square" - version 10.2.161.22 . See http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/ . Related AUR package flashplugin-prerelease http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=32072 . What will be the status of lib32 flashplugin in multilib repo? Regards. Keshav

For now we wait whether Adobe really maintains this one or drops it again with the next update of the 32bit version. -- Florian Pritz -- {flo,bluewind}@server-speed.net

I wouldn't wait that long, because it can take ages until Adobe will release the next Flash version. I would only wait until Adobe releases a final "stable" release of this native 64 bit version. After that I would keep flashplugin in [multilib] but rename it to lib32-flashplugin or bin32-flashplugin and put the native 64 bit version as flashplugin into [extra] again. The [multilib] version should, of course be kept at least until it is sure that Adobe really maintains this 64 bit version. I bet it would be better to never remove this [multilib] version. Heiko

Renaming sounds good to me. So far that plugin works a lot better than using nspluginwrapper, which often segfaults and is quite slow. -- Pierre Schmitz, https://users.archlinux.de/~pierre
There has never been any stable release of x86_64 Flashplugin. Even when the 64-bit plugin (10.0.45.2) was released for Linux alone, it was still part of Adobe labs and not a stable release. And I don't think Adobe will back out this time because this plugin targets the 64-bit versions of all the 3 major OSes (Windows, Linux and Mac OS X), not just linux alone. So I think it is fair enough for this plugin to go into extra repo in the same way the old non-stable 10.0.45.2 plugin was present before. Regards. Keshav
