Hi all, Were trying to bring KDE/GNOME and all other dbus related updates to Arch64 as soon as possible, but were a little shorthanded at the moment for the massive update. I've just uploaded KDE 3.5.5 to the repo's, so have fun. (Wait a while for your mirror to sync). Please report any bugs you find back here or flyspray ganja_guru

[arch-ports] anybody having problems with Madwifi on Arch64?

Everytime i try to do something with wireless (even something as simple as 'ifconfig ath0 up'!!), the system hangs. The strange thing, though - if i do a compile of the madwifi package myself, using the exact same (from ABS) PKGBUILD on my Arch64 system... everything works out fine!! No system hangs anymore... Has nobody else ecnountered this problem? This is with the most recent version of madwifi - 0.9.2-2, and kernel26 2.6.18.1-2 -jf -- "It's so hard to write a graphics driver that open-sourcing it would not help." -- Andrew Fear, Software Product Manager, NVIDIA Corporation http://kerneltrap.org/node/7228

[arch-ports] New WikiDoc - 'Installing VMware Server on an Arch64 System'

For those who have been thinking of setting up VMware Server in Arch64... i've written a wiki document for it. See http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installing_VMware_Server_on_Arch64. It's definitely complete (tested, /bootstrapped and tried out already), but i could definitely do with some help in the 'Miscellaneous, / "Notes"' section (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installing_VMware_Server_on_Arch64#Misc…) - if anybody could add something to the Notes already there, or answer to any of the questions raised, that would be great. In the meantime, just sit back, enjoy the ride, and pls dont edit out any of the tongue-in-cheek stuff i put in. ;) thank you, -jf

[arch-ports] 'community'/"community64" repo - some questions

hi folks, as per subject - just some questions about the 'community' repo that i've noticed... Firstly, i've noticed that something seems to be wrong with the "official" community repositories that i have in /etc/pacman.d/community. Why are some servers serving out only the "db" (database) of files within the repo, but not serving out the actual packages? (like take a look at ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/community/os/x86_64/) While others (eg. ftp://cle.linux.org.tw/pub/ArchLinux/) have deleted the community repo altogether (the list gives ftp://cle.linux.org.tw/pub/ArchLinux/community/os/x86_64), such that the directory isnt even there. What has happened to the "community" repo here? Right now, i am using the "community64" repo at http://www.archlinux-br.org/people/dsa/repository/community64, but is this supposed to be the "new" (or "actual") "community" repo now? Secondly, I think it would be great (for code audit, and for peace of minds' sake - as well as for reference as how to compile or port packages to Arch64) that the packagers of these packages provide the PKGBUILDs for the packages that they build. Where are the PKGBUILDs for these packages, and how may i get them? Specifically, i am looking for the PKGBUILD for wmii-3 (where is it? can i have a look at it?), but i am sure the rest who use the community64 repo would like to see the other PKGBUILDs too. -jf

Hi everyone, i think we should make a clear plan about who is porting what for arch64 in community. Because at the moment there is a little bit confusen around. For my part i know i should look after x11 and xfce but i think i can do more but don't know if some one other is working on it allready. So i think we should make a clear plan for it. [arch-ports] Solution for 32bit/multilib-problem

Hi all, some days ago I had to reinstall my Arch, so I decieded to give arch64 a try. It`s working great and I think this will be the future of Arch. But what I really missed is the ability to run 32bit-apps. I do not understand why the devs do not want this. But as I did not want to discuss about this, I just created some packages which allows me to start 32bit-apps within Arch64 (not using chroot etc.) To make things very easy I did not set up a crosscompiler etc.. Instead I used the packages from arch32. All libs are installed to /opt/lib32, so it wont mess up your installation. I set up a repository for testing: [pierre] Server = http://www.archlinux.de/~pierre/packages/x86_64 I got the following apps running: * Doom3 (this requires: lib32-glibc, lib32-libx11, lib32-libxau, lib32-libxdmcp, lib32-libxext, lib32-nvidia-utils, lib32-alsa-lib) * Enemy-Territory * Unreal Tournament * Google Earth * Opera (I only put it into the repository for demonstrating how it works) What do you think about this? -- http://www.archlinux.de

Hi all, Just a quick mail, I finaly finished to port gnome 2.16 from i686 to Arch Linux PPC in TESTING. Just do : pacman -S gnome gnome-extra For now, some mono things and evolution are missing.
