Gimp 2.10.6-2 is exactly the version from extra, that is terrible unstable on my install. Now 2.10.8-1 from extra is installed, but I didn't work with it and just test running gains nothing, since it tends to crash when doing real work and I don't know steps to reproduce a scenario to make it crash. There are a lot of reports that Gimp 2.10 is unstable for many users.

My Arc theme is most likely based upon an Arc theme from August 2017 and probably needs an update.

I'm not using a DE, just the WM openbox, it stays steady at 3.6 since a long time ago.

The last time I used it, two days ago, it way too often crashed while just doing an "amateurish levels of image manipulation", to make an image to lightscribe an Ubuntu 18.10 live DVD. Involved were opening a PNG, using a few layers, one text layer, pencil, brush, eraser, selection, cut, copy, paste, pipette, fill, scaling, toggle quick mask, no color menu thingy, no filter menu thingy, just using a mouse, no whatsoever tablet that might cause lots of data. However, it requires to work with it, just opening gimp, adding a few layers, one text layer, randomly using pencil, brush, eraser, selection, cut, copy, paste, pipette, fill, scaling, toggle quick mask one or two times, not necessarily does cause a crash.

Since gimp isn't a native audio app, even while useful for album cover art, we shouldn't dig deeper.

Just out of curiosity: Why do you do that? Does localization, added in 5.12-7 not work for you?

If not, how can this be improved? How does your version differ from the one in the repos?

FWIW the GTK apps that don't work properly with an Arc theme on my machine, aren't more stable after changing to Adwaita from official repos. So the issues I experience with a few GTK apps, are seemingly not related to the used theme. It would require debugging, but IMO Firefox and Firefox clones as well as Claws aren't worth the effort, Evolution, Sylpheed, Falkon and Google-Chrome do the job as well. I only consider debugging Gimp and I hope that after upgrading Ardour, it will remain as stable as it is (not always perfect stable, but good usable).
