[arch-proaudio] Aeolus in text mode segfaulting
Hey hey, Aeolus' text mode keeps failing, it has done so for a while. Since I didn't strictly need it at the time, I let it go. All retunings and the setup routines run through correctly. gdb shows that the error occurs once rl_initialize from readline is called. The final problem occurs in libncursesw. In itself this is strange, since I run a lot of other apps relying on libreadline and libncurses. From the arch packages this would include ecasound and mod-host, amongst others. As a self-compiled binary this also includes Yoshimi. All link to the same libraries, libncursesw.so.6 and libreadline.so.8 . Could someone suggest further steps, please? Or maybe even a direct solution? I'm sorry, version clarifications: aeolus 0.9.7-2 (current) ncurses 6.1-6 (current) readline 8.0.0-1 (current) zita-alsa-pcmi 0.3.2-1 (current) clthreads 2.4.2-3 (current) jack 0.125.0-7 (current) db 5.3.28-4 (current) Linux kernel 5.2.5.arch1-1 (not up-to-date) The problem occured at least as far back as half a year, maybe a year. the answer to that depends on whether you are hoping to learn some trouble-shooting skills, or if you simply want the problem to go away a segfault is always a bug, not maybe sometime, but always - assuming that you are using only official arch packages, and you can give a clear recipe of steps to reproduce the problem, then the simplest way to get that bug fixed is to report the bug on the arch bug tracker - if you had done that six months ago, and then "let it go", that bug probably would be fixed now; and not only for your personal use, but for everyone if you are interested in trouble-shooting it yourself, thats awesome too; but the answer would be more involved o/c; and its not clear if thats what you want
Hi Bill, thanks for your reply. I have already investigated further, being curious, and discovered that this is not only a problem with the Arch package, but also buoilding it from source and thus posted another bugreport to the Linux-Audio-Users' list, of which Fons (the author of Aeolus) is a member. Hopefully this might introduce a fix in the code. ok i mistook the situation - on first sight, this looked like the all too common sort of plea to: "please someone help _me_ to fix _my_ problem"; where in most cases, the root of the problem would affect anyone trying to accomplish the same task on the same distro - whereby, my usual inclination is to encourage people to become more involved with their distro, and the process of bug reporting, triage, and fixing; because that is the best way to improve the software and distro experience for everyone, while minimizing redundant efforts - i see now that you have the right idea already; so my rant was unnecessary - good work, fellow bug hunter :)
