Hey hey, I had noticed a few days ago that the Arch package of Guitarix does no longer contain the LADSPA plugins. Having looked at the git repo of Guitarix, I see that, at least, there still is a folder named ladspa with the relevant .cpp files in it. Was there a specific reason to drop the LADSPA plugin versions? Working on the commandline, using Ecasound, I mostly rely on the LADSPA plugins and regularly use it, whenever I have guitars or guitar-like sounds or just need good distortion. Hi Jeanette, during a discussion around build issues I reported over a year ago, upstream suggested to no longer build the LADSPA plugins: https://github.com/brummer10/guitarix/issues/144#issuecomment-1969169638 That said: LADSPA is generally on its way out and it is extremely rare that any LADSPA plugins see any development (in comparison to LV2, CLAP or VST3). FWIW, ecasound should also be able to host lv2 plugins. Related: Is there any software that can replace ecasound for you? Upstream is not really active and we are accumulating patches etc. for all sorts of issues. Best, David -- https://sleepmap.de
Hi David, thanks for the info. that is sad news indeed. Ecasound does support LV2 plugins, but there are issues. Some work better than others. I am not aware of a single alternative to Ecasound. And I have been worrying about that for a while now. -- Even if I were to consider reinstalling and configuring a GUI, solving the major issues behind extreme speech output latencies, nothing much would be gained. Many plugin GUIs used JUCE. JUCE has seen basic accessibility support, but ONLY on mac and windows. And even there it takes a while for that to trickle downstream towards the users. Sorry, for the moment I don't have a Linux answer. I know that I could find solutions on one of the other OSes, but I don't have the budget to buy the basic hardware to run with with any kind of reasonable efficiency. Thanks again for the info and the warning. Seeing that this still seems to be a valuable option for Jeanette, I'll try to keep it alive as a package for as long as I can. Best, David -- https://sleepmap.de
Many, many thanks David! This IS verymuch appreciated and I will do my very best to use it with alacrity. Publications have been sparse over the recent months, but I have finished and half finished a few projects with Ecasound/Nama and enjoyed it. I will keep looking for alternatives though.
