I think this is a fair analysis. Thanks for taking the time to explain your reasoning. My only (personal) concern about my clock is that its accurate enough so that cron runs when I expect it to. A few minutes here and there hopefully isn't going to set off my OCD ;)

Thanks to Kurt for explaining to me the weird and unfortunate workings of hwclock! Kurt, could you squash your two commits, and create a new one with the "UTC as default" setting (or drop the UTC stuff alltogether if you prefer, and I'll make a patch when I have time).
