Current udev does not work well with the IDE subsystem, so we should encourage users to move to the ATA subsystem instead (using the pata hook).
We should probably get rid of the IDE subsystem from the kernel altogether at some point (so people don't end up using it by accedint). Dan successfully debugged and fixed the only blocker that I'm aware of https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=41582, but there might of course be others.
