First patch fixes a possible issue with SCSI drives (needs testing) Related bug report: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12949 Second patch modifies the automatic partition preparation step of the installer to use MiB instead of MB, because most users (myself included) are more familiar with MiB (2^20 bytes) than with MB (10^6 bytes) and because that's what sfdisk (used for the actual partitioning) is expecting.

Thanks everyone for your efforts in testing and experimenting with the grub stuff. I went over all mails and tickets, and afaict we only have 4 more open remaining issues, for all of which we only need someone with access to apply the fixes / some testing. See the roadmap @ http://bugs.archlinux.org/roadmap/proj6 FS#13070: we have a fix but need a developer who can update archlinux-installer (and it's package) for us FS#13068: we have to wait until grub-gfx package is updated for 64bit FS#13049: should be okay for 64bit users. if you have such system, keep your eyes open during cdrom boot and confirm it's okay now please. FS#12896: need confirmation from usb users that it's okay. I personally have a slow upload.. maybe some else can upload his homebuilt isos (or we can wait a bit for Aaron to surface again, but that will be more then 24 hours from now I think) Anyway, here is the build procedure, it's quite easy: git clone http://projects.archlinux.org/git/archiso.git cd archiso/archiso sudo make install #to be packaged later cd ../configs/install-iso # change version in Makefile # if on x86_64, remove intel-536ep and intel-537 from packages.list ./buildall.sh scp release/* ...somewhere... Hello all, Just a "heads up" - I am currently rebuilding packages due to some dependency cycles in core that caused install scriptlets to fail when installing a new system. Later today I want to push out a beta3 ISO containing the fixed packages (for the core images), and a new installer, in addition to a minor usbdelay related fix. Now... I will be leaving for the weekend on a little vacation Friday night. What I'd like, when I push this out, is for people to "signoff" on this. In order to signoff, please list: * The full name of the image used * Real hardware, or virtual machine * Bootloader used * FS types used (useful for ext4 or esoteric filesystems) * Other setup tweaks (encryption, lvm, etc) * Success / Failure * Related bug report links We will not be completely able to fix 100% of bugs, so we need a "good enough for most people" rating, right now. If all goes as planned, the same beta3 images will be used for release. If we run into too many issues, we may need to make this a 2009.02 release :( Cheers, Aaron

`hdparm -I', a command used in the installer to discover the total capacity of hard drives, fails in VMware with SCSI disk emulation. It works fine with IDE disk emulation though. I'm not sure if this affects real hardware with SCSI disks as well, maybe someone with access to such hardware could check? The report for this possible bug is @ http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12949

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=488820#p488820 It's old, It's hard to know which version of the installer they are talking about, it's hard to get an overview/keep track of requests, etc etc. Can someone close it and suggest to use our lovely bugtracker? Dieter

Is the any reason to not include grub2 on the install ISO, for those that wish to try it out? Does anyone think we might be pushing it too much seeing as it's still beta status?

[arch-releng] Grub and ext4, error 2

Hey, I just tested 2009-01 beta 2 for x86_64. Used ext4 for my root partition. When booting I keep getting error code 2 from grub, I even removed my 2nd harddisk, because I thought that was the problem. Is it possible that because I used the ftp install, that not all necessary packages are moved to core? That is the only thing that I can think of causing this problem, or could it be a bug? Can't be, the overlord eats them like candy right ;) Are there more people having problem with the ftp install and ext4? Thanks, jordz
