gave i686 core a spin in Virtualbox 32 bit. ext4 autoprepare no problems encountered. my keyboard layout was not put automatically in rc.conf but I think this has always been the case. all bugs that i could test seem fixed. see below Dieter

The difference between major releases might be too big, but it should really speed up testing if only a few chagnes are made.

And of course the overhead of up/downloading the img and iso images can be reduced.

In the future, we're going to have a machine setup for building these and will host the ISOs directly from there, so this transfer back and forth will be nonexistent. Would the xdeltas still be useful at that point?

Not really. My intention was just doing it for the testing releases to speed thing up. This should prevent things like "I have change a line in the installer, please download 2GB again and test :-)"

Your patch looks good to me. I don't want to delay the release for another week just for this though. see ticket.

Notes:

- If the release is going to be numbered 2009.02 the isolinux images have to be rebuilded for consistency, 2009.01 appears in the boot screen.

Nice, a token that will always remind us of the great time we had building this thing and eventually doing the (bit delayed) release. Let's keep this :)

- Now in rc.conf if you use local time it appears HARDWARECLOCK="local" instead of HARDWARECLOCK="localtime". Just if you didn't realized, in case "localtime" is needed for something. I know rc.sysinit uses it, but it's always in an "else" branch, so no problems there. Can you report this bug please?

http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/12949 can be closed too. When I performed the tests the disk capacity was correctly detected both partitioning the disk manually and using the auto prepare feature. It was tested using all of the modes VMware supports regarding buses and HDs. -- Alexander

Ok, I moved the files to the ftp dir and renamed them. I also added the instrucstions and a md5sum file. I created ONE torrent for all files;I was to lazy to create one torrent per file. When I open this in Ktorrent it asks me which file to download. Please let me know if there are problems with other clients. I also added 10 mirrors as webseeds (again, I was too lazy to add all ~70 mirror by hand). Of course they are not synced yet. But it would be intersting if this works in one or two days later. ATM, I limited seeding to 80KB/s. I would be happy if some would join me seeding. Just download the RC2 ones and rename them; or wait until the webseeds are available. hmm it really shows up as just "iso" in rtorrent, even in the properties it says that this is the name. Though now you mention it, when i check some other torrents, the "name" always seems to be the same as the directory it get's stored in. But most things have fancy names and get stored in fancy directories.

Ah, I now see what you mean. It seems the problem is the strange bittorrent format. "name" is not only a random name, but part of the path. And as long as we store our isos in an dir named iso we cannot chagne it. here's a simple script that requests '/iso/2009.02' on all mirrors from default /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and counts the file with 2009.02 in there name. Ok, I moved the files to the ftp dir and renamed them. I also added the instrucstions and a md5sum file. I created ONE torrent for all files;I was to lazy to create one torrent per file. When I open this in Ktorrent it asks me which file to download. Please let me know if there are problems with other clients. I also added 10 mirrors as webseeds (again, I was too lazy to add all ~70 mirror by hand). Of course they are not synced yet. But it would be intersting if this works in one or two days later. ATM, I limited seeding to 80KB/s. I would be happy if some would join me seeding. Just download the RC2 ones and rename them; or wait until the webseeds are available.
