Since I am offering up the idea, and since I wrote the original json interface, I would have no problem doing the work, so this isn't a "I think this is a good idea for someone else to do" type thing. I am looking for feedback as to whether I should spend the time on it or not.

I was going to do something like this eventually. I'd like to put AUR into the command line as the primary interface with full functionality.
