[aur-general] Initial "haskell overlay" available

Hey all, A week ago I announced a group had formed to improve Haskell support in the Arch package system. One week ago, the Haskell on Arch story was rather sketchy, GHC had just been orphaned as a package from 'extra', and only half a dozen apps and libs were available in binary form. 20 or so extra Haskell packages were available in AUR. A week later, a lot has happened. We've now completely automated the packaging of Haskell apps and libraries, via a new tool, cabal2arch. http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=17471 which is able to package 90% of the available Haskell software without user intervention. This is the first time this has been done on any distro (Gentoo has similar Haskell package coverage, but it is done manually) This enabled us to create a Haskell overlay repository, of binary packages (x86_64 only): http://code.haskell.org/arch/x86_64 with more than 350 packages. Automatically built. An RSS feed of new things added is also available: http://code.haskell.org/arch/x86_64/haskell.xml Begining with the #arch-haskell IRC channel, we've now got a mailing list and extensive documentation on the wiki. http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Haskell_package_guidelines And the autopackaging has made it possible to migrate more than 300 recipes for building Haskell software into AUR. I think the rapid progress is a testament to the quality packaging infrastructure in Arch. Good work! The next steps are to un-orphan GHC, and the other Haskell things Simo can't work on now, and to then ensure an appropriate core toolset is available in extra. Given we don't have a Haskell-expert dev now, advice on how to proceed here would be welcome. Cheers, Don

[aur-general] orphan request for emacs-{planner,remember}

I would like to request orphaning of emacs-planner and emacs-remember. The maintainer does not respond to comments (since Feb 10, 2008), nor to e-mails (sent Jun 2, 2008). There's a problem with the PKGBUILDs - outdated, and unfortunate versioning ("latest" instead of a true version number). Thank you. [aur-general] Packages available for adoption

Hi, I would be willing to give up most of my packages in community/AUR for adoption in order to decrease my workload. Please check the list: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?O=0&L=0&C=0&K=Snowman&SeB=m&PP=100 and let me know if you would like to adopt some of them. Most of them are in the community repo but I would be willing to move them in unsupported if a non-TU is interested in them and if it's not something I use. [aur-general] New tool to automate Haskell package creation

Hey all, Just a little announcement. A few of the Haskell fans have formed a little dev group to work on and improve Haskell packages for Arch. To start with there's an IRC channel #arch-haskell @ freenode And the start of a packaging guide for Haskell on the wiki, http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Haskell_package_guidelines And a new tool has been written that automates the process of creating PKGBUILDs from Haskell 'cabal' packages (those on hackage.haskell.org) This has meant we've been able to rapidly ramp up creation of new Haskell packages for Arch. The cabal2arch tool lives here: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=17471 If you work on, or maintain Haskell packages, perhaps drop by the IRC channel, so we can work out the final details for standard Haskell support. I might have believed that creating a new folder in community would work... There was gnome, kde, xfce; I worked on lxde packages, so I created a lxde folder with packages in it... Normal, uh?
