Hi All, The linux-wbfs-manager package in AUR (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=29128) has been out of date for 3 months and has been flagged as out of date for ages too. I have emailed the maintainer (eirik) with the changes to the PKGBUILD for the new version (just a version bump and change the md5sum) but I haven't got a response. I would happily maintain the package so can you orphan it for me? Or is there anything else I need to do first? Thanks, Mark (fastfret79)

Hi, In the spirit of all the desktop haters, is anyone here (apart from me) looking forward to KDE 4.4? From this angle, that is, not minding dbus too much, it looks to be very promising. They have some interesting stuff due to be merged into the trunk, like tabbed window management, revamped oxygen, and other such things. I took the time to read their feature list for 4.4 and it all looks good. Also, does anyone have any opinions on their changing of KDE to KDE SC (KDE Software Compilation)? Personally, it feels a bit silly, and I imagine KDE will continue to prevail, but it's not too important anyway. Regards, Laurie

[aur-general] provides version for VCS packages

Hello ! It's been some time I'm facing the same problem. When one build a package from VCS, one should include the original package name (usually $pkgname with -svn -git ... removed) in the provides array so packages depending on the program provided can find it. For example, if I want to package python-poppler-bzr, I will include "provides=('python-poppler')" so desigle can satisfy its own "depends=('python-poppler')". But now, imagine that desigle needs a recent version of python-poppler, and so it has "depends=('python-poppler>=0.2')". Then, makepkg will not detect python-poppler provided by python-poppler-bzr because it cannot compare versions. One then have to specify the version of the package provided. In case of a VCS, it's not always easy because it can change from a revision to another. So one need a way to get that version, and use it in the provides array. That's here I need your advice, because I successfully tested some workarounds, but I'm not really sure of their "ugliness"... Solution 1: Use pkg-config file (not always present) with awk build() { ... _realver=`cat path/to/package.pc | awk '/^Version/{print $2}'` provides=("realname=${_realver}") } Pros : rather easy Cons : Needs awk and some people hate awk, needs file.pc set. Solution 2: Use pkg-config with grep and sed because some people hate awk build() { ... _realver=`cat path/to/package.pc | grep 'Version' | sed 's/Version: //'` provides=("realname=${_realver}") } Pros : only generic tools are used Cons : still needs file.pc, less clear Solution 3: Use configure.ac build { ... echo "provides=(realpkg=@VERSION@)" > ${pkgname}.provides.in echo "AC_OUTPUT([${pkgname}.provides])" >> configure.ac ./autogen.sh ... source ${pkgname}.provides } Pros : should work in more cases, fun somehow isn't it ? Cons : rather complex, maybe incorrect with the new autoconf syntax (AC_CONFIG_FILES) and it seems that files are then generated two times. Well, thanks for reading, let's discuss that now :) Cilyan

[aur-general] How to include sources from sourceforge + creating links not provided by package

Hi, I'd like to know how to specify sources coming from sorceforge in PKGBUILD, and example could work just fine. Also I'd like to know how to create a link automatically once the package has been installed. This implies removing it when removing the package. If necessary, checking if the link exists when upgrading the package (if the package gets removed before installing new version, that might be handled by the removing of the link when removing the package)... [aur-general] Please delete my package "dyson"

I decided not to maintain this package (dyson) anymore because it is closed source, upstream won't fix it as they've released a commercial version of it and it only works 1/4 of the time (not due to packaging issues). I think it is best to just remove it. -- Sven-Hendrik

Hi, can someone remove xml-security-c ( http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=32198)? I replaced it by libxml-security-c (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=32353) It's just for renaming purposes. Should be right, right? Regards, Rene

Hi there, evilgnome quite rightly pointed out that the package cedega-bin32 should be called bin32-cedega, according to the (perhaps defacto?) conventions for 32 bit packages on x86_64. [aur-general] PHP 5.2 in [community]

Hi fellow TUs, Would you mind if I brought php52 [1] to [community]? While backward incompatible changes in PHP 5.3 are limited, last time I tried switching a server to it, it broke a Drupal site (due to some parameters being passed by value to functions that were expecting them to be passed by reference). It also seems that the PHP 5.2 branch is still maintained upstream, with a new version (5.2.12) currently in testing. After 'cleaning up' a package I'm maintaining (nginx-unstable), and verifying it can be built and works fine, AUR rejected the package.
