[aur-general] ttf-google-webfonts{,-distilled,-git,-hg} mess

I am the current maintainer of the AUR package ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4], and I'm bothered by the mess of various packages there are for Google's Web Fonts project. It's not at all KISS in its current state. There are currently four different AUR packages[1][2][3][4] that essentially supply the same files, and all four packages conflict with each other. Around August of 2012, the package named ttf-google-webfonts[1] was orphaned, and user w0ng created a GitHub repository[5] that mirrors the Mercurial repository[6] on Google Code (why?). Then, the new maintainer changed the original ttf-google-webfonts package from a VCS-type package that simply lacked "-hg" in the name to a package that pulls tarballs from w0ng's GitHub repo[5]. As you can see in the comments for ttf-google-webfonts[1], this has caused all sorts of confusion and messages about the package being out-of-date or having invalid checksums. To get around these issues, user epinephrine created the package ttf-google-webfonts-git[3] that clones w0ng's GitHub repo[5] instead of pulling tarballs from it, which significantly reduces the maintenance required on the package. Then, user Gently created a package named ttf-google-webfonts-distilled[2] that pulls a tarball from w0ng's GitHub repo[5] and only installs a small subset of the fonts therein. Shortly after ttf-google-webfonts[1] was changed from being a Mercurial-based package and not liking the direction that the package was taking, I reuploaded the original ttf-google-webfonts package as ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4] for people that simply wanted the old package back that uses the actual Google Web Fonts repository to download the files. To clean up this mess, I propose that ttf-google-webfonts-distilled[2] and ttf-google-webfonts-git[3] be deleted outright, for what should be obvious reasons. I also propose that ttf-google-webfonts[1] be deleted because of how frequently the Web Fonts project is updated and because the project lacks version numbers. If people really feel strongly about keeping that maintenance nightmare, then let them have it, but I really don't see what advantage it provides over the original ttf-google-webfonts-hg[4] other than one less makedepends. I apologize for the huge email, but this situation really is a mess. [aur-general] Copy.com dueling packages

There are 2 packages for the Copy.com client software package: copy - https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/copy/ copy-agent - https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/copy-agent/ I think both have PKGBUILD problems, from dependencies (the Copy.com software uses Qt4, not Gtk, for instance) to poorly formed PKGBUILDs (one has just a package() method and one has just a build() method). I'm not really sure how this should be resolved, mostly because I wouldn't pick one over the other right now. Any one with more PKGBUILD confidence want to step in? [aur-general] disowning a couple of packages

Hi, I'm disowning sage-mathematics, sage-mathematics-spkgs(optdepends for sage-mathematics), fityk, and xylib(dependency for fityk). I will move them to the aur in a week if no TU adopts them in community. If you plan on adopting sage-mathematics, you should know that it is currently unbuildable on archlinux, and some other newer distros due to how it is built. Hi, I have been interested lately in alt-currency and I wanted to try zetacoin, but I couldn't find a package in the repos or the AUR. So, using terracoin-qt's PKGBUILD (which is outdated, by the way) I have created the PKGBUILD for zetacoin-qt-git. As it is the first PKGBUILD I make, I wanted to make sure that it is well written. Hi everyone, What's the current recommended way to support multiple mirrors for the same source file in a PKGBUILD? For example, I have xyz-123.tar.gz that can be downloaded from any of "http://a.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz" " http://b.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz" "http://c.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz"...but one of these may be down at any given time. If there's no support for this in the sources array itself, we should strongly consider adding it. For example, an ad-hoc way: _pick_source_mirror() { # ... do something smart in here } source=( "xyz-123::$(_pick_source_mirror( http://a.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz http://b.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz http://c.example.com/xyz-123.tar.gz ))" ) A less ad-hoc way: source() { #...some code that returns a list of URLs/files } Another way: source=(...files without mirrors as usual...) sourcemirrored=( xyz-123::($mirroraURL $mirrorbURL $mirrorcURL) ) Mirrored sources seem like a common enough phenomenon that it's worth special treatment to make the source PKGBUILD variable more versatile if they're not currently supported. [aur-general] Revise VCS packages versioning

Hi I would like to discuss VCS package versioning that is described here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VCS_PKGBUILD_Guidelines I am looking at the -git packages but it also applicable to other VCS. Here is the suggested way to create the version local ver="$(git describe --tags)" echo "${ver//-/.}" so 0.7-19-ge4e6e20 will turn into 0.7.19.ge4e6e20 The problem is that the revision number (19 in this case) looks like 3rd component in the version. Now imagine upstream project releases version 0.7.1. The generated version becomes 0.7.1 (and then 0.7.1.1.gfoobar). With the new tag the generated version becomes smaller (0.7.1.1 < 0.7.19). That is the real problem that I had with tup-git package - upstream uses both 2 and 3 component versions. We should recommend a way that works this case. There is a discussion in the comments and the best recommendation is to use following recipe: git describe | sed -E 's/([^-]*-g)/r\1/;s/-/./g' The idea is to find the commit number and start it with "r" (revision). "r" is smaller than a number so it will help in our case. 0.7-19-ge4e6e20 => 0.7.r19.ge4e6e20 Another issue is a repo that has no tags. Here is a recommendation from the wiki page: printf "%s.%s" "$(git rev-list --count HEAD)" "$(git rev-parse --short HEAD)" that will use number of commits (a large number e.g. 3000). The problem arises when the project creates first tag e.g. 0.1. I suggest to fix this problem by using "0" as a tag version (and add prefix 'r' like in the previous item). This makes sure that non-tagged version is always less that a tagged version. So pkgver() will look like: printf "0.r%s.%s" "$(git rev-list --count HEAD)" "$(git rev-parse --short HEAD)" Let me know if you have any objections. If not then I'll update the wiki page.

Hi y'all, I can't seem to reach AUR user maci who maintains lxc-docker-git: his email domain (satgnu.org) has an MX record that points to satgnu.org as the mail server, but satgnu.org has no A record. This is the second message I've tried sending over the last couple of weeks. Please disown lxc-docker-git so I can adopt it. If he wants it back later, he can email me and I'll disown it and let him adopt it again. The AUR package "gregorio-svn" is currently outdated, doesn't follow the new VCS PKGBUILD Guidelines, and doesn't build correctly with the latest upstream source changes. I have a new fixed package for "gregorio-svn" ready for upload. Please remove/orphan the current package so I can upload my own one. Thanks in advance!
