Bottom line is that packages can be named after anything you want. As long as they are named the same as upstream, and the software is legal and useful.

I suggest that you make standard in Arch waiting a couple of days for feedback before making unilateral decisions.

Since publishing to the AUR is something that all packagers do quite frequently, I have developed a software that reduces the related operations to the bare minimum, making publishing to the AUR instant. Basically it's a SMED <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aoqra9bXAAg> system. The software is called "aur <https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/aur-git>" itself, and you can check its manual out by in the terminal entering: curl --silent https://gitlab.com/es20490446e/aur/raw/master/assets/aur.1 > aur.1; man ./aur.1; rm aur.1 As long as constructive, suggestions are very welcome. [aur-general] Doubt conflict array & request check PKGBUILDS

Hi, I recently adopted two packages from AUR: adwaita-qt and adwaita-qt4. Today @morealaz (who is maintaining adwaita-qt-git) asked me to edit some of the arrays in the PKGBUILD (please read comments in the AUR website) and after reading the wiki I did a commit with those little changes. I am not sure if they are correct and he argues that I should a conflict array. Can someone have a look at these two (three) PKGBUILDS and tell me if I should change something and why? Thanks, Iyán

Several bugs have been fixed, we made some significant performance improvements by caching results of expensive database queries, and a simple CAPTCHA has been added to combat the growing number of spam accounts. [aur-general] Rename Request for python-spotipy, python-spotipy-git and python2-spotipy

First of all: this is one of my first contributions to a mailing list so if I did something incorrectly, please let me know. I sent this to aur-requests but was told to post here instead. A rename is being discussed for the spotipy package, since the original one hasn't been updated since 2017 and its maintainer is inactive. Here's the new API's GitHub issue where this is being discussed https://github.com/felix-hilden/spotipy/issues/22. The package is going to be renamed on PyPi and Read The Docs, with depreciation warnings and enough time for the current users to update it. But the old version shouldn't be removed in case someone still wants to use it. The same thing applies to the AUR packages. Currently these are python-spotipy, python-spotipy-git and python2-spotipy. The maintainers of these projects should either update it to the new API once it's ready and create the old API packages, or rename them and create a new package with the new API. And by maintainers I also mean myself. I can help by maintaining these packages if necessary. Also, please note that this new API isn't available for Python2 so python2-spotipy would only have to be renamed. I'd appreciate suggestions on this change and how it could be done. Thanks

[aur-general] TU removal: Ray Rashif

Hi all, I would like to start the discussion period for a Trusted User removal of Ray 'schiv' Rashif on the grounds of 'Special Removal of an Inactive TU' [1]. Note, that this is separate from any motion in regards to Ray's developer status. Currently Ray is the maintainer of 60 packages in [community] and [extra], of which none are actively maintained by him (for years). Ray's last action as a community member (in archweb) has been on '2019-03-12 12:50'. The account 'schivmeister' doesn't maintain any packages in the AUR and the last login in aurweb was on '2019-03-12'. However, the last counted Trusted User vote is number 117 (current vote: 118). The voting procedure will commence after seven days of discussion period, in which Ray can state his case.
