Hi, My name is Hyacinthe and I'm hereby applying to become a Package Maintainer. My application is sponsored by Rémi Gacogne (rgacogne), whom I met at FOSDEM this year, and Robin Candau (Antiz). I sincerely thank both of them for their availability and support. I live near Metz in France and I've been working as an HPC sysadmin at the University of Luxembourg for the last 15 years. You can find me by my first name on IRC or my unix login "hcartiaux" anywhere else. My Linux journey started in the 2000s with Mandrake 8.2 which was a magical (pun intended) experience, discovering all the desktop/window managers packed on the 3 CD-Rs, as well as Dreamcast-Linux which I used to write my first Hello World in C. I then used Ubuntu, Debian and Gentoo, before settling on Arch Linux in 2007, convinced by its design and the KISS philosophy. This experience has definitely shaped my professional skills and mindset. In the past years, I've shared my personal projects on GitHub[0] and more recently on Codeberg[1] as well. Among others, I've been particularly active in the dn42 community[2] and developed a BGP auto-peering service[3] which I had the opportunity to talk about at FOSDEM this year[4]. I also build and release OpenBSD cloud images[5] with cloud-init. On the Arch Linux packaging side, I am maintaining some packages on the AUR[6] and I've submitted a fair amount of Merge Requests on the Arch Linux gitlab, most notably to add missing nvchecker integration to packages[7]. I've also been active in the testing team, and started working on small PoC package testing suite using bash, bats and podman[8]. Some packages should obviously be tested on real hardware but, currently, testing packages is a quite repetitive and not well documented task, so I think that centralizing test cases as code could be a good idea. Aside from packaging-related contributions, I submitted two Merge Requests to pacman (pending approval): * one to fix compilation warnings (and make the CI green)[9] * another one to fix a bug (#297) regarding temporary directories left in /var/cache/pacman[10]. I genuinely enjoyed reading the pacman code. C is not my day job but I'm interested in everything low-level. Outside of the cyberspace, I like biking and hiking in the forest, ping me and I'll happily share my preferred spots in Luxembourg and in the greater area ;) If I'm accepted as a Package Maintainer, I'm especially interested in maintaining HPC and sysadmin related packages in [extra], such as: * clustershell * lmod * env-modules * netcalc * autofs I'd also be interested in moving the following AUR packages: * cvmfs * turbovnc * screen-message * ruby-hiera-eyaml * puppet-lint I'm willing to adopt some of the currently orphaned packages in [extra] (e.g. encfs, cdrdao, sg3_utils, nss-mdns) and also to help maintain some packages that only have one maintainer at the moment (e.g. bats* packages, gocryptfs, parted, iotop, smartmontools, autossh, python-paramiko, expect, ncftp, cdparanoia, powertop, unrar/unzip...). I may be interested in contributing to other areas as well in the future, such as bug wrangling and maybe infrastructure/devops (since I'm fairly accustomed to Ansible/Terraform). boost 1.91 optional changes broke build of AUR/mongodb44, need C++ help

All, Boost/boostlib 1.91 changes to boost::optional broke the build of https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mongodb44 Most of these issues I can fix, but I'm stuck on this one unsure how to resolve the issue. (so I'm raising the white-flag for help) The error is: src/mongo/db/catalog/coll_mod.cpp:361:32: error: converting to 'boost::optional<mongo::ViewDefinition>' from initializer list would use explicit constructor 'constexpr boost::optional<T>::optional(U&&) [ with U = mongo::ViewDefinition&; typename std::enable_if<std::is_constructible<T, U&&>::value, bool>::type <anonymous> = false; typename std::enable_if<(! boost::optional_detail::is_typed_in_place_factory<FT>::value), bool>::type <anonymous> = false; typename std::enable_if<(! boost::optional_detail::is_in_place_factory<FT>::value), bool>::type <anonymous> = false; T = mongo::ViewDefinition ]' The code at issue is: boost::optional<ViewDefinition> view; if (db && !coll) { const auto sharedView = ViewCatalog::get(db)->lookup(opCtx, nss.ns()); if (sharedView) { // We copy the ViewDefinition as it is modified below to represent the requested state. view = {*sharedView}; } } There were changes to boost::optional for c++17 at https://www.boost.org/releases/1.91.0/ and I think I've tracked the issue to https://stackoverflow.com/q/72712318/3422102 and https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=109247, but even with that information I'm still not sure how to use that information to resolve the constructor selection issue. The A/B test cases in the SO question leave me scratching my head on how that applies here, if it does? AUR mongosh, dfimium499 took over the repository and locked me as co-maintainer out

AUR Moderators, I was added as co-maintainer for mongosh by the original submitter. I've provided updates for the past year+. I just received notice of the package being out of date, updated the package, built in a clean chroot to confirm and made the source package and attempted to commit to git, but my account no longer works for this package and I am no longer listed as the co-maintainer. Attempting to commit results in: $ git push git-receive-pack: permission denied: drankinatty fatal: Could not read from remote repository. Please make sure you have the correct access rights and the repository exists. I was never contacted about this change and from the very long comment from dfimium499 -- it appears he has very little understanding of the package and how it is built and what it is comprised of. Warning about hermes-agent-git

Hello! I had originally created the https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/hermes-agent-git package and then eventually disowned it, because I stopped using it and had no intention of maintaining it. I still got notifications tho, and today I got notified of a comment, went to check it out of curiosity and noticed that a user "acarrasco" had picked it up. The thing is, Agustin Carrasco is my name, which makes me really suspicious of this new maintainer; their user is also really new (same day I disowned it I think) and the mail doesn't match the username. Honestly it looks like some kind of bot that picks up orphaned packages and create a user based on the previous maintainer name or something like that. Could be nothing but thought it was worth bringing it up. Agustin.-

Is the AUR Blocking SSH access from certain IPv6 prefixes?

Hi all, I recently had to change my ISP provided modem and router and as I wanted to update an AUR package of mine, git just wouldn't push (it hung indefinetly). Then I checked the connectivity by using telnet which also just hung like git. If I then proceeded to check if it would work with IPv4 and there it would just connect and show me the ssh header. Put then I recently contacted a colleague of mine and told him my issue and he told me that it was working just fine for him. Of course I had to make sure that It wasn't just my own IPv6 config not working, but that was quickly ruled out as connecting to another ssh server via IPv6 worked just fine. And I also checked the MTU which is just the normal 1500 for me. So that's why I'm asking now if there is some server side block of certain IPv6 prefixes in place? This is my residential IPv6 prefix: *2001:1708:25b8::/48* (ISP being Sunrise in Switzerland) Cheers Julian

Package Maintainer application

Hi! I’m Claudia aka Auerhuhn [1] from Darmstadt, Germany (@claui on GitHub [2]), and I’d love to join your team as a Package Maintainer. When I’m not busy putting stuff into packages (e.g. on the AUR), you can probably find me playing the piano, maintaining personal side projects in Python and other languages, and generally learning things. At my day job as a software developer for DB Systel, I maintain software that displays coach and seat numbers on trains so passengers know where to board („Reisendeninformation“). I was a maintainer with Homebrew for seven years, first with Cask [3] and later as a core team member [4], maintaining formulae and the CLI. I also helped bootstrap and orchestrate the aarch64 migration [5]. In 2021, I decided to leave the Apple ecosystem [6], even though that meant I had to say farewell to my fellows from Homebrew [7]. I’ve been daily driving Arch Linux ever since. I’m pretty much invested in free and open-source software: my phone runs a mobile Debian, and according to an LLM-generated roast, I’m a “FOSS Martyr.” When you meet me in person, ask me how life is going with absolutely no apps. Or don’t; I’ll probably tell you about it anyway. On `extra`, I’d like to maintain a couple of packages that I think will be useful for the CLI crowd: python-xlsx2csv (Excel textconv for Git), aider-chat (a FOSS alternative to Copilot), and python-llm. I’m also looking into adopting a number of entries from the list of orphaned Python packages [8] and possibly co-maintaining those that currently have only one maintainer. I’ve been occasionally contributing to Arch projects as well, e.g. namcap and aurweb [9], and will continue to do so if time allows. Thanks to Gromit and Anthraxx for sponsoring my application. Ttf-hanazono was dropped from the main repositories and I wanted to ask if it was on purpose. It seems to be that way and that is why I have already made a package.(I didn't read the package's issue board before the last email, my bad). I'm sorry about the encrypted email, this is my first time sending non-test mail using Gnus and I accidentally encrypted instead of signed. I won't do it again. Keon Cachia
