Comments are of course hostile. But, what are the insulting parts of them?
I wonder what is the right sort of action to do in situations such as what is happening in those AUR comments.
Any time I read
<quote> pulled of a "Jia Tan" takeover of the package </quote>
that certainly does get my attention. I think you are handling it in the correct way. Provide a little space and time for things to settle. <deleted-account> is gone, so no further issues there.
We are all here because we like and want to contribute to good software. We should all be capable of doing that without throwing rocks at each other. The moderating comments I read there seem sufficient for now.
The account in question isn't gone. It was recreated and issued an orphan request to gain back control. Using questionable references to cement their viewpoint on the whole situation. What I find most worrying is the amount of illogical behaviour at work. It is more of an ego thing at work. The PKGBUILD in question didn't provide the best of service for its users and even encouraged the wrong way as a workaround. And what happens? This gets defended and the whole thing seen as an xz-Utils situation. That is one way to blow this out of proportion... And the first reference from the current orphan request is still doing something wrong. But instead of fixing it, they "cheer" on their "win". But that reminds me why I don't follow up with any action most of the time when I write comments when I notice something odd with a PKGBUILD. And instead fix it locally. Too much hassle...
