Quick reminder for anyone that feels "blocked" by the current state of this package: It seems like the needed patches/modifications have been described in the comments. Nothing prevents you to update the PKGBUILD locally on your side while waiting for the AUR package to be under active maintenance again (in 5 days, hopefully).
Good point. YMMV but I’ve made it a habit to use customizepkg [1] for those cases. It comes with a tiny DSL just for PKGBUILDs. I use it to bridge short-term blockage. I keep contacting maintainers, and I try to contribute patches to upstream projects whenever I think it makes sense.
