I have to revise my claim "it _absolutely_ doesn't belong to the comments". I guess it's ok to ask some usage questions by a comment too, but as already pointed out, less people might notice a comment and to many usage requests by a comment would be bad.
Ah, I thought it was a question specific to that piece of software and I suggested to use the comments for that package (I suppose at least the package maintainer reads comments). I think questions regarding packages may be appropiate here, but if all users from all packages start asking questions about packages here, I fear the mailing list will be cluttered with lots of messages about software only a few people actually use. Of course these are only my € 0,02, I'm in no way a list moderator or prescriber here.
Questions regarding software from AUR are unwanted on Arch general, so in the past several subscribers send requests regarding usage of software from AUR to AUR general.
Indeed, questions about AUR (= unsupported) software should not be asked in the general mailing list.
Users could subscribe to each mailing list of the software they are using, but then we need to subscribe to hundreds of mailing lists.
And that's why comment discussions feel more appropiate to me: only users of the software are notified. Actually, I might be more responsive to comments, as they are delivered in my general inbox, whereas mails to mailing lists pop up in several submaps. Best, Marcel
