The developer contacted me and said he was not comfortable with the fact that his pre-alpha software is available as a package to endusers.

Seems odd that the developer doesn't want people using it, but have made the code publicly available.. Have you told them that the AUR doesn't contain precompiled software packages, and that -git packages in particular are well known for being unstable/developmental?
