Should I apply to become a TU, just submit a package named "jython" to AUR and/or request that the current jython package is deleted?

I'd be willing to maintain jython in [community]. If you have an updated PKGBUILD, send it to me off-list. I used jython in school occasionally, for the purpose of testing Java code. So I have some minimal experience with it. Moving it to unsupported is fine as well. No objections from me. -- Chris
