From a user's perspective, Emerald themes may be badly coded, but they're just so much NICER than gtk-window-decorator themes =).
Its going to be a moot point though, once compiz++ comes out. I've switched to gtk-window-decorator already since I've been testing that on and off. So yes, I use emerald-themes personally but based on various sources it IS deprecated.
