pkgstats results are far more reliable than votes, especially if a package has been added to [community] when it had less votes and has since become popular. Many people will find the package in the repository and simply download it. They may not even know (at first) about the AUR, or about the voting system. Also, since Arch is a relatively small distribution, quite a few packages which are otherwise used (and important) are not in binary form in Arch, because too few people use them. The problem in adding packages with zero (or <5 votes) is not only of resources, but also of what happens when the TU leaves... In these cases others have to either take a package which they don't use, or move it to unsupported. -- Abhishek Dasgupta
