Package Maintainer application
Hi! I’m Claudia aka Auerhuhn [1] from Darmstadt, Germany (@claui on GitHub [2]), and I’d love to join your team as a Package Maintainer. When I’m not busy putting stuff into packages (e.g. on the AUR), you can probably find me playing the piano, maintaining personal side projects in Python and other languages, and generally learning things. At my day job as a software developer for DB Systel, I maintain software that displays coach and seat numbers on trains so passengers know where to board („Reisendeninformation“). I was a maintainer with Homebrew for seven years, first with Cask [3] and later as a core team member [4], maintaining formulae and the CLI. I also helped bootstrap and orchestrate the aarch64 migration [5]. In 2021, I decided to leave the Apple ecosystem [6], even though that meant I had to say farewell to my fellows from Homebrew [7]. I’ve been daily driving Arch Linux ever since. I’m pretty much invested in free and open-source software: my phone runs a mobile Debian, and according to an LLM-generated roast, I’m a “FOSS Martyr.” When you meet me in person, ask me how life is going with absolutely no apps. Or don’t; I’ll probably tell you about it anyway. On `extra`, I’d like to maintain a couple of packages that I think will be useful for the CLI crowd: python-xlsx2csv (Excel textconv for Git), aider-chat (a FOSS alternative to Copilot), and python-llm. I’m also looking into adopting a number of entries from the list of orphaned Python packages [8] and possibly co-maintaining those that currently have only one maintainer. I’ve been occasionally contributing to Arch projects as well, e.g. namcap and aurweb [9], and will continue to do so if time allows. Thanks to Gromit and Anthraxx for sponsoring my application. I hereby confirm my sponsorship. All my interactions with her were very friendly and always with a positively chatty mood via text and video call alike. She has always shown extensive knowledge, dedication and a lot of curiosity. I sincerely believe she makes a fabulous addition to our team. 😺 Cheers, Levnete

I’d also like to adopt quilt [1] as it’s helpful for some cross-distro packaging tasks (i.e., maintaining Debian packages while on an Arch host). @arojas: CC’ing you to save you one dropping-to-AUR chore, given that quilt is on your Spring cleanup list and you mentioned on arch-dev-public you’d start dropping in ~ 10 days. Hi Claudia! Nice to see you applying as a Package Maintainer :)

Can't wait to hear it :P
On `extra`, I’d like to maintain a couple of packages that I think will be useful for the CLI crowd: python-xlsx2csv (Excel textconv for Git), aider-chat (a FOSS alternative to Copilot), and python-llm.
Quick note for aider-chat, you don't need to ship the Apache-2.0 license with the package, it is already provided by our "licenses" package.
I’m also looking into adopting a number of entries from the list of orphaned Python packages [8] and possibly co-maintaining those that currently have only one maintainer.
Thanks for looking at the list of orphan packages / packages with only one maintainer. It seems like you're keen on the python ecosystem / packaging. This is nice, we are often facing some challenges on that front :P
I’ve been occasionally contributing to Arch projects as well, e.g. namcap and aurweb [9], and will continue to do so if time allows.

I've exchanged with Claudia on IRC in multiple occasions and I can confirm the sentiment that Gromit and Anthraxx shared. Claudia always showed curiosity, interest and an accurate technical knowledge in the conversation we were both a part of. I also think she would be a great addition to the team!

Hi! Happy to see your application. As is tradition I went through some (but not all, there's. so. many.) and it looks well maintained indeed. As the AUR maintainer role hasn't quite materialised yet, AUR moderation still falls under the Package Maintainers. Do you intend to participate in this, or would you rather focus on the main repos?

Do note: "packages that have only one maintainer" is _most_ of the repos. Nevertheless, more maintenance is definitely appreciated. In addition to what you wrote, I would like to mention that you were very helpful this very week in chasing down a potentially dangerous AUR package, ultimately proving that it wasn't dangerous, luckily. Best of luck with your application, Bert.

Hi Bert,
As is tradition I went through some (but not all, there's. so. many.)
Welp. I guess you can take Auerhuhn out of the packaging but you can’t take the packaging out of Auerhuhn?

I’ve tried policing the recent additions feed for a while, just to figure out if it’s for me. It’s not :) so I’d rather focus on the repos and tools. I’ll be happy to mediate though if need be, e.g. when an AUR user reaches out on the mailing list.
Nevertheless, more maintenance is definitely appreciated. What ecosystems would you be interested in working on?
I used to be more of a Ruby person but nowadays, Python has become my comfort zone, especially since build tools and typing have settled!
In addition to what you wrote, I would like to mention that you were very helpful this very week in chasing down a potentially dangerous AUR package, ultimately proving that it wasn't dangerous, luckily. Thanks for the shoutout Bert!
