[aur-general] Which aur uploader is better, aurploader or burp?
I realize there are two AUR uploader helper, aurploader[1] and burp[2]?Which one is you guys using? What's the pro and con? Thank you Techlive Zheng [1]:https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=23393 [2]:https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=37216
Burp is nice.

I haven't used aurploader but burp works perfect for me. It has all the options you need to upload to aur. I really like the config file where you put username/pass so that you don't have to type it every time. I just do a burp package.src.tar.gz and the job is done :) -- (\_ /) copy the bunny to your profile (0.o ) to help him achieve world domination. I have just done some digging on two projects. [bup][1] was initialed developing from May 13 2010 in github, since then, it is in an active developing state till now. [aurploader][2] just have one release on Sep 21 2010, and can not find any vcs repo. So, bup is better I think. [1]:https://github.com/falconindy/burp [2]:http://xyne.archlinux.ca/projects/aurploader

[snip] I was using aurploader until recently but gave burp a go after I tried cower by the same aurthor. I really liked cower and burp looks a little more snappy to me than aurploader. Mike

I can't really compare yaourt and cower as I never used an aur helper before (except aurploader for uploading). I used to use a simple BASH script to download and extract the tarballs containing the PKGBUILDs, etc but this was getting difficult to manage, ie no searching or notification of new package updates. Those are the features of cower I use the most, search and status of packages. It works well for me. Mike

FYI cower and burp are developed by Dave Reisner, a current developer of pacman ;) Cower can't be compared to yaourt as it only downloads packages doesn't build them. I use both cower and burp, they are very handy when you work with a terminal :) -- (\_ /) copy the bunny to your profile (0.o ) to help him achieve world domination. I haven't use them before, non of them Actually it's my first time i heard about a utility program for uploading to AUR For downloading yes of course it's nice to have one like yaourt, but for uploading it's little bit useless. For downloading yes of course it's nice to have one like yaourt, but for uploading it's little bit useless.
No, it's really useful when you are updating your PKGBUILD on an headless server. -- Cédric Girard

It *is* very useful. I maintain numerous aur packages, and using burp is very convenient. I just do a #!/usr/bin/fish makepkg --source burp (ls --sort=time *src.tar.gz | head -1) Previously I used aurploader (anything associated with Xyne is appealing since the times of bauerbill), but it forgot the user/password too quickly, so I tried burp, which fits my needs better in this regard. Both are great programs.
Now I'm convinced about using burp, i think/sure updating numerous pkgs is very usefull and somehow necessary. And this is #!/usr/bin/fish
makepkg --source burp (ls --sort=time *src.tar.gz | head -1)

Mayby this way.. #!/bin/sh makepkg -S burp $(source PKGBUILD; echo ${pkgname}-${pkgver}-${pkgrel}.src.tar.gz) This absolutely sure we upload the same version as in PKGBUILD

You mean that aurploader can not keep username and passname in config file?
aurploader can do that with the -l option. I have aliased aurploader to 'aurploader -l ~/.aurlogin' for that purpose. -- Cédric Girard

Oh ... /me blushes. I somehow missed this option, I relied on the cookiejar functionality, which expired too soon for my taste. Xyne did it again :)
I'm predicting hordes of babies auruploading would improve the google fight results. - Alexander

There is alao aurup[3]. As you can see from the AUR-ID, the by far oldest AUR uploader. Works fine here. [3]https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=5848

I added aurup to the answer of "How can I upload to AUR without using the web interface?" in FAQ section of AUR wiki page.
