Hi, It builds with either, although zlib seems to be linked dinamically for both, so you have to specify -lz. For me the packages are identical, same patches, etc. xan.

Yes, the static libs are there, but have you actually tried compiling something with them? Last time I tried, I was unable to. I don't remember the exact things I've done, but I remember that the package you want deleted worked where yours didn't. Try compiling something with static libpng and see if it works.
