[aur-general] Discussion about roblox package
Hi everyone, I found this package in AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/roblox/ Do we really need packages that simply download an .exe file and chmod a simple bash script to run it? Have a nice day, Edoardo
I think some packages is just like this, i.e. it only consists of one single file or some more. And another thing, I think it's better to use install instead of cp followed by chmod. On Sun, Jul 14, 2013 at 10:47:20AM +0200, Edoardo Maria Elidoro wrote:

I know, I simply "dislike" to have a package like this that just download an .exe file so I thought I might hear other options about this. Edoardo
If they are maintained they don't hurt anyone. It is nice to have pacman keep track of all the stuff that goes outside /home or generated on runtime.

I think it's not packager fault if the application is so portable that requires only a crude copy to execute. If the package does what it's asked to a package, therefore to properly install an application and render it properly usable, the package can be considered well done. What does dislike you? Could it be more complex? Btw some fixes should be made to that package. First of all the package could be made better following the wine packaging guidelines [1] to properly prepare the wine environment. Maybe an icon and a desktop shortcut could be added. A dedicated wine prefix will be a good choice. So the package can be heavily enhanced but I think it shouldn't be considered trash just because it will merely copy an executable file and let it run. Thanks Muflone, you're right, I simply did not thought it that way ;)
