I e-mailed the current maintainer yesterday, but the package hasn't been updated in almost a year-and-a-half, so I was hoping I could just get it orphaned so I can adopt.

Orphaned. Please note that in general you should allow at least two weeks for the current maintainer to respond to your email. (In this case, the maintainer appears to have been inactive for some time, so I went ahead with the disowning.)
