[aur-general] How to contribute to AUR?
Hi :) I'm new to this list. I'm uncertain, but perhaps I'll maintain audio packages, however, I've to learn how to do it, so I started with a test PKGBUILD for a non-audio app I wanted to test. IIUC what's written at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Packaging_Standards the below example needs just the following changes to become a valid PKGBUILD: - I need to remove the # text lines, or should add useful text - remove # Contributor and add # Maintainer with my real name - should add an URL - if it shouldn't build from git/svn... I need to add a checksum *?* Regards, Ralf $ cat /usr/src/whiskermenu/PKGBUILD # text : ############################################################### # text : PKGBUILD for the first time edited on my tablet PC # text : ############################################################### # Contributor : Batpackager <info.mardorf@rocketmail.com> pkgname=xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin-git pkgver=20130626 pkgrel=1 pkgdesc="Alternate Xfce menu" arch=('i686' 'x86_64') license=('GPL2') makedepends=('git' 'cmake') depends=('xfce4-panel') provides=('xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin') conflicts=('xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin') _gitroot="https://github.com/gottcode/xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin.git" _gitname="xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin" build() { cd "$srcdir" msg "Connecting to https://github.com/gottcode..." if [ -d $_gitname ] ; then cd $_gitname && git pull origin msg "The local files are updated." else git clone --depth 1 $_gitroot fi msg "GIT checkout done or server timeout" msg "Starting make..." rm -rf "$srcdir/$_gitname-build" cp -R "$srcdir/$_gitname" "$srcdir/$_gitname-build" cd "$srcdir/$_gitname-build" cmake -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr make } package() { cd "$srcdir/$_gitname-build" make DESTDIR=${pkgdir} install

Where did you get this PKGBUILD template from? It’s outdated as hell. The new fancy way is much different. Remove _gitroot. Under _gitname, insert: sources=("git://github.com/gottcode/${_gitname}.git") md5sums=('SKIP') Then remove all the lines in build() before the cmake line, and above it, put: cd "${srcdir}/${_gitname}" In package(), replace the `cd` line with the above and put quotes around ${pkgdir}. Moreover, you need a closing brace at the end of package() Then, remove the comment lines and put a maintainer comment at the top. -- Kwpolska <http://kwpolska.tk> | GPG KEY: 5EAAEA16 stop html mail | always bottom-post http://asciiribbon.org | http://caliburn.nl/topposting.html

Diego, Please avoid top-posting in arch mail list. Use Kwpolska's posting style, instead.

Ralf Mardorf, Just complementing Kwpolska comment, I suggest seeing other GIT packages in AUR (that are updated to the new (indeed) fancy way) and also take a look in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VCS_PKGBUILD_Guidelines Rafael Ferreira

Not to mention I blantly copy-pasted most of those magical things from one of my templates, specifically [0]. Which reminds me I need to write up PKGBUILD templates for configure-make-make\ install, and put it in that repository (which also contains hacky URL creation magic in Python 2/3tarball templates.) It is, but why are you leaving the "v" at the beginning of the pkgver? When releases are made, they don't start with a "v", do they?

Hi Diego, I've seen it myself right now, but wasn't aware of it before. I'm only interested to _perhaps_ maintain audio packages, not this package ;). However, comparing your PKGBUILD with my test PCKGBUILD and the explanations from other list members should help me to learn how to build valid packages. Thank you and everybody else for the help, Ralf
In this case, it also really needs updated to Pacman 4.1 format and a pkgver function added.https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VCS_PKGBUILD_GuidelinesThere are some examples there of how to do a pkgver function, as well as information about just using git as a normal source, _gitroot and _gitname are no longer used.
