[aur-general] warez in the AUR
We have two warez-orphans: * battle-chess https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46739 * space-quest-1 https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46928 and two packages that have a maintainer that didn't comply with the notice served (i.e. trontonic's comment on the AUR page of these packages) in the customary two weeks: * the-incredible-machine-1 https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46491 * the-incredible-machine-2 https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=46493 I would like to ask a TU to fix these packages as outlined in http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/aur-general/2011-December/016992.html Thank you.
Hi, While I don't really think a PKGBUILD can count as warez (and believe the subject is misleading), I agree with "the ioni-solution" of not linking directly to copyrighted content in the "source" array. Adopting, modifying and disowning the four packages in question. -- Best regards, Alexander Rødseth Arch Linux Trusted User (xyproto on IRC, trontonic on AUR)

I'll try to be be more precise in the future :-) [...]

The links are still present in the PKGBUILDs. We still have no rules against this and I'm not sure I can invoke forum rules here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Forum_Etiquette#Legality
Hi, I don't think the forum etiquette rules applies to AUR packages. If I understand you correctly, the point is that it would be natural to create rules for AUR that are within the same spirit as the forum etiquette rules? I can agree with this, but the forum etiquette rules are, IMO, unclear on both the topic of abandonware and also on which laws for which countries are "applicable". Crafting a similar etiquette rule for AUR would surely spark several lengthy discussions and should probably involve more than just one TU. If you wish to push the issue further, I'm not sure where to go from here. Perhaps a new forum thread? -- Sincerely, Alexander Rødseth Arch Linux Trusted User (xyproto on IRC, trontonic on AUR)

Nah, let's leave it as it is. Thanks for your work on this subject. There's already a thread on the forums and a couple threads on the ML + a wiki discussion and Arch is not my personal project so I don't want to force anyone into accepting my point of view.
